Coming Soon – The Don Lewis Harmonic Symphony

Honoring Don Lewis through Fire and Form

Harmonic sounds from six sculptural ensemble pieces will soon invite the community to celebrate Pleasanton’s own Don Lewis — the “music man” whose upbeat spirit and infectious personality inspired a love of music by all who heard him.

The cement pad is complete. Renowned Truckee artist Anton Standteiner is now creating the mixed-metal sculpture “Maestro”. Six surface-mounted instruments will arrive soon: Lilypad Cymbals, Pagoda Bells, Harp, Contrabass Chimes, Manta Ray Chime, and Aria Metallophone.

This joyful public art is made possible by the generous donation of Gary and Nancy Harrington through their Harrington Art Partnership Piece for You (H.A.P.P.Y.). It will  honor Don Lewis, inventor of the LEO, the forerunner to MIDI, Musical Instrument Digital Interface.

A community celebration is anticipated in mid-May 2026. Please visit www.pleasantonarts.org for updates.

Celebrate the genius of Don Lewis with a happy musical smile and a rubber-tipped mallet.
