At West End Facial Plastic Surgery (WEFPS), Dr. Robert Schmidt leads a practice where natural beauty and advanced techniques come together to help patients look and feel their best. With a focus on individualized care, Dr. Schmidt and his team aim to dispel common myths surrounding facial aesthetics and provide patients with the most effective, natural-looking results.
One of the most persistent myths in the field of facial plastic surgery is the idea that Botox can be used to lift the neck. Dr. Schmidt clarifies, "You cannot use Botox to help lift your neck. Botox works by relaxing muscles, so injecting it into a sagging neck will only cause it to sag more." While Botox can lift brows minimally invasively, "a facelift is the only way to effectively lift the neck," he adds.
Another misconception often encountered is the belief that multiple syringes of filler are necessary to achieve a natural, youthful appearance. Dr. Schmidt explains, "Our goal is to make patients look natural, not overdone. By using only one syringe per session, we allow the filler to settle and evaluate the results before deciding if more is needed." This careful, gradual approach ensures that patients achieve their goals without the risk of looking “overdone.”
Facial plastic surgery is often misunderstood, with many believing they need a "full facelift." "There's no one-size-fits-all approach," Dr. Schmidt asserts. "A 'full facelift' typically refers to multiple procedures, but not everyone needs all of them. We tailor each surgery to the individual’s needs." For many, a brow lift or mini-lift may be sufficient to achieve a rejuvenated appearance without the need for more extensive surgery.
Contrary to another myth, Dr. Schmidt assures that facial plastic surgery doesn’t change a person’s identity. "Good surgery should make you look like a refreshed version of yourself," he says. "We’re turning back the clock, not making you into someone else." His philosophy and goals are always to enhance natural beauty rather than dramatically alter your appearance..
With 15+ years’ experience, Dr. Schmidt has kept pace with advancements in surgical techniques. "We’re currently seeing a revolution in how face lifts are done," he shares. One of the most significant improvements is the ability to lift deeper facial tissues with minimal skin disruption, resulting in a quicker recovery.
Today, WEFPS is not just about Dr. Schmidt’s expertise; it's also about a team committed to advancing the field of facial aesthetics. The addition of two new aestheticians has expanded the range of services, from microneedling to advanced facials like Hydrafacials. "Our team is constantly evolving, and we’re always looking for ways to improve our treatments," Dr. Schmidt says.
While focusing on cosmetic facial surgery, Dr. Schmidt also offers reconstructive procedures to patients who have suffered facial trauma or developed skin cancer. "Ultimately, my job is to improve people’s lives, not just prolong them," he reflects.
The results speak for themselves—patients leave feeling confident and rejuvenated, with subtle, beautiful results that last.
