CD Torrance & Associates CPA: Your Year-Round Partner for Tax and Financial Planning
Outside the office, Catherine enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, bonus children, and extended family
CD Torrance & Associates CPA may be one of the newer accounting firms in the area, but owner Catherine Torrance brings decades of experience, a passion for helping others, and a long-term approach to tax planning that clients quickly learn to appreciate.
Founded in May 2024, the firm offers individual and business tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll services, and proactive tax planning designed to help clients make informed decisions not only for today, but for the future as well.
“I enjoy serving others, and I enjoy the puzzle pieces that make up accounting,” Catherine says. “We want to be a reliable and trusted partner to our clients, so we are here throughout the year to navigate any changes that arise to plan for the tax implications of these changes.”
A lifelong Chesterfield resident, Catherine graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting before passing the CPA exam in 2005. She later earned her MBA from Southern New Hampshire University in 2020. Her professional journey began in corporate accounting, where she worked across multiple industries before transitioning into public accounting as a tax manager for a local firm in 2021.
That experience ultimately gave her the confidence to launch her own business and build the type of client relationships she values most.
“What sets us apart is that we want to be a reliable and trusted partner year-round,” Catherine explains. “Many people don’t think about taxes until filing season, but life changes happen throughout the year. Whether it’s changing jobs, starting a business, or planning for retirement, those decisions can have significant tax implications.”
Catherine and her team encourage regular conversations with clients and their financial advisors to prepare for those changes in advance.
The firm also specializes in complex tax deferral strategies that can help clients minimize tax burdens and avoid surprises later.
In just over a year, CD Torrance & Associates has already experienced impressive growth. What began in a co-working space has expanded into a dedicated office suite, along with the addition of one full-time employee and two part-time team members.
Outside the office, Catherine enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, bonus children, and extended family. She remains a proud Auburn fan and loves following nearly every sport. The firm also supports local organizations including Elijah House Academy and RE:work Richmond.
For residents, Catherine offers one important piece of advice: don’t wait until tax season to ask questions.
“Most people don’t realize the tax impact of certain decisions until it’s time to file,” she says. “Having conversations throughout the year allows your tax professional to help you plan ahead and potentially save money.”
