Meet The Florenz Family

A Family Deeply Rooted in Sawgrass with a Love for the Fairway & Community

Tell us a little about yourself and your family. Who makes up the crew at home? What are their ages? Hobbies? Etc.
Billy (dad), Shelby (mom), Callahan (6 years old), and JoJo (5 years old). We love to play sports, go to sporting events as a family, go to the beach, and fish in our backyard. The boys are already in love with basketball, flag football, tennis, golf, and soccer.

How did you and your family end up in Sawgrass Players Club? What made this community the right fit for you?
We got engaged in 2016 and started looking at wedding venues. We quickly decided to get married on the front lawn of the TPC Clubhouse. While visiting the neighborhood frequently for wedding planning, we heard rumblings of what is now known as The Yards. So we decided to buy our first house in TPC Sawgrass the same week we got married. We knew we wanted a family, and we knew this was where we wanted to raise it. Since then, we’ve owned five homes in the neighborhood, and each one has been part of our story here.

What do you do professionally, and what do you enjoy most about your work?
Shelby is a real estate agent and part of the Sports & Entertainment division at Compass. Shelby works a lot with the Jaguars organization. Some of her notable clients are Sawgrass resident and Special Teams Coach Heath Farwell and his wife, Julie. Others include GM James Gladstone, Head Coach Liam Coen, and QB Trevor Lawrence.
Billy is part owner of a company called BLVD Design. His partner in the company is Caroline Wolf, also a Sawgrass resident. They work together to help homeowners update and invest in their homes through design and project management.

What are some things your family loves most about living in Sawgrass?
We love everything about our neighborhood — the golf, the park, the restaurants, the incredible bird life, and the fishing. Recently, my boys have gotten into bird watching and learning all about the different birds in Sawgrass. But more than anything, it’s the people and our neighbors that truly make this community feel like home.

When did you first get into golf? Was it something you grew up playing or discovered later in life?
Shelby grew up playing golf and even won two state championships in Montana. Billy grew up playing occasionally with his dad, but it was later in life — especially after living in Sawgrass — that he truly fell in love with the game. Some of our first and favorite dates have always been out on the golf course together.

What does golf mean to you personally — competition, relaxation, social time, or a little bit of everything? Do you have a favorite local course or hole around the Sawgrass area?
Golf for us has always been about more than the game. It’s time outside together, uninterrupted and away from the busyness of everyday life. Now that we have two boys, it’s become something even more special — a game the four of us can enjoy together as the perfect foursome.

What’s the most memorable golf moment you’ve had — either playing yourself or watching?
Billy proposed to Shelby in Amelia Island on the 5th hole of the Ocean Course. That’s a round we will never forget.

For many Sawgrass residents, The Players Championship is the highlight of the year. What does tournament week feel like in the neighborhood from your perspective?
This week, during the tournament at TPC, is one of our favorite times of the year. It’s a chance to be with friends, see people we haven’t seen in a while, and host our loved ones so they can experience firsthand why we love living here so much.

We’ve heard your annual TPC kickoff party has become a bit of a tradition. How did that start, and what do you love most about hosting it each year?
We started nine years ago at our first home in Oak Bridge with just a few couples. Over the years, it has grown into a gathering of more than 100 people. It’s become our time each year to celebrate, with no real reason or season other than bringing everyone together and giving back to the people we love.

What makes The Players Championship different from other golf events? If someone has never experienced TPC week in Sawgrass, what would you tell them they’re missing?
The Players Championship is a happy tournament. It’s full of good energy, good vibes, and people all there for the same reason — to enjoy the game and have a great time together.

Favorite golfer to watch right now?
Scottie.
