Creative Roots in Sedgefield
The Vizcuña/Besana family blends art, entrepreneurship, and community connection.

When Jonathan Vizcuña and Angela Besana moved to Sedgefield in January 2022, they brought with them a blend of artistry, entrepreneurship, and dynamic family life.
Jonathan, 47, was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and relocated to the United States in 2007. “Moving here gave us new opportunities,” he says. “It’s been a wonderful place to grow professionally and personally.” Angela, 46, originally from Boston, graduated from Southeastern Cosmetology School in Charlotte and built her career in beauty with dedication and vision.
Jonathan holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Business Administration from Nueva Esparta University. As a Senior UI/UX Designer at Aline, he focuses on making digital experiences intuitive and accessible. “My role is all about improving how people interact with technology,” he says.
Angela owns and operates Cara Amici Salon, known for luxury hair color and extensions. After years of success in Charlotte, she recently opened her second location in Sedgefield. “I wanted to create a space that feels welcoming and elevates how people see themselves,” Angela says.
Their daughters, Brianna and Sharell, bring their own energy and creativity. Brianna, 23, works with children with autism while studying to become an occupational therapist. “I’ve always felt called to help others,” she says. Nine-year-old Sharell is an enthusiastic musician and athlete. She takes piano lessons at Moore Music School and participates in swimming. “She’s excited about her recitals coming up next year,” Angela shares.
Valentino and Lunetta, the family’s French bulldogs, complete the household. “They’re like meatballs with ears,” Jonathan says with a laugh. “Valentino is the gentle old soul, and Lunetta is always trying to escape. They keep us on our toes.”
A Heart for Community and Creativity
Giving back has been part of Angela and Jonathan’s story from the start. Angela is an active member of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and regularly supports charitable causes.

“I’ve been involved with Locks of Love, Susan G. Komen, and Make-A-Wish over the years,” she says. With her Greensboro salon, she hopes to create a hub for connection, especially for women-owned businesses. “It’s about using our platform to empower others.”
Jonathan is equally committed to supporting the community. Through Casa Azul, a nonprofit celebrating Latino culture in the Triad, he volunteers his time and design expertise. He also shares his artistic talent through collaborations with the Center for Visual Artists.
“Art in the Afternoon is one of my favorite programs,” he says. “It’s a chance for kids to explore creativity in a supportive space.” His low-poly paper sculptures have earned recognition in galleries and museums nationwide. Currently, his work is on display at CVA Gallery, PTI International Airport, and Irving Park Art & Frame. “Art has always been part of who I am.”
Family Traditions and Neighborhood Joy
Weekends in the Vizcuña/Besana household are often filled with food and discovery. “We love brunch,” Angela says. Favorite spots include Sage Mule, First Watch, and Dear Dads. When they’re not enjoying a meal together, you might find them exploring downtown Greensboro’s markets or festivals. “There’s always something happening,” Brianna says.
Holidays are especially meaningful. “They’re a time to slow down and reconnect,” Angela says. From cooking traditional Italian dishes to capturing memories in photos, the family cherishes these moments of togetherness.
Reflecting on their time in Sedgefield so far, Jonathan shares a memory that stands out. “Sledding on the golf course during the snowstorm was the best,” he says. “Everyone was out there. It felt like a big community celebration.”
When asked what they love most about living here, Angela doesn’t hesitate.
“The sense of charm and community,” she says. “Local businesses are supported, and creativity is embraced. We feel a strong sense of belonging and are excited to keep building memories here.”
