Baity’s Tire

A Longstanding Greensboro Business Focused on Honest Service

For more than 70 years, Baity’s Tire has helped drivers in Greensboro keep their vehicles safe and dependable. The long-running business on Merritt Drive continues to serve the community with tire sales, automotive repairs, and a team known for experience and straightforward service.

Tripp Barksdale, Vice President and part of the next generation of leadership, says the shop’s approach has remained consistent over the years. “We try to make things simple for people,” he says. “Our goal is to treat customers fairly and make sure they understand exactly what they’re paying for. When you do that consistently, people come back and they tell their friends.”

Baity’s Tire was established in 1953 and has spent decades building relationships with drivers across the Piedmont Triad. Tripp grew up around the business and has watched firsthand how the shop built its reputation. “I’ve seen how much pride our team takes in doing the job right,” he says. “A lot of our employees have been here for decades, and that experience makes a big difference for customers.”

That experience is one of the company’s defining features. Many members of the team have spent most of their careers at Baity’s Tire, including Lee Barksdale with 51 years of service. Other long-time team members include Tom Hewitt, Jim Fields, Banner Bishop, and technician Thomas Kandis. Their combined knowledge allows the shop to work on a wide range of vehicles and automotive needs.

Tire service remains at the core of what the business does. Baity’s Tire carries a large selection of tires from brands such as Michelin®, BFGoodrich®, and Uniroyal®. The shop is also Greensboro’s only factory-direct Michelin® dealer. In addition, customers can choose from Goodyear, General, and several private brands designed to offer value at different price points.

“Our goal is to give people options,” Tripp explains. “Every driver has different needs and budgets, and we want to help them find the right tire for their vehicle. We keep a large inventory so customers don’t have to wait long to get back on the road.”

One of the features that customers appreciate most is the shop’s “Ready to Roll pricing.” Instead of adding separate charges for each step of the service, the quoted price includes mounting, balancing, new rubber valve stems, disposal, tire rotation, and North Carolina sales tax.

“We want customers to know the full price from the beginning,” Tripp says. “Nobody likes surprises at checkout. Clear pricing helps people feel comfortable, and it builds trust over time.”

In addition to tire sales and installation, Baity’s Tire offers a wide range of automotive services. Certified mechanics handle alignments, brake repairs, oil changes, air conditioning service, and North Carolina state inspections. The shop also performs suspension repairs, engine diagnostics, cooling system service, battery replacement, and other common repairs.

Preventative maintenance is another focus of the team’s work. Services such as oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections can help extend the life of a vehicle and prevent larger repair costs later. Baity’s Tire also keeps many common parts in stock, including brake pads and other frequently used components, which helps keep service times short.

“We know people depend on their cars every day,” Tripp says. “Our goal is to keep things moving quickly while making sure the work is done right.”

Over the years, Baity’s Tire has served drivers not only in Greensboro but also in nearby communities such as Jamestown, High Point, Kernersville, Archdale, Summerfield, Winston-Salem, and Thomasville. The shop works on passenger cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs, and its technicians use modern equipment for balancing and wheel service.

Tripp has spent much of his career helping continue the approach that built the company’s reputation. Having worked alongside the long-time team at Baity’s Tire for many years, he understands the importance of consistency and trust.

“This place has been part of the community for a long time,” he says. “Our focus is making sure customers feel comfortable when they come in and confident about the service they receive. If we keep doing honest work and treating people fairly, they’ll keep coming back.”

For Tripp and the team, the mission remains straightforward. “If we treat customers fairly and do quality work, they’ll continue to trust us,” he says. “That’s what has kept Baity’s Tire going for decades, and that’s what we plan to keep doing.”
