Growing Better Lawns, One Yard at a Time
Jason Bridges brings a golf-course mindset and a commitment to service to nearly two decades of lawn care across the Triad.
Long before launching his own business, Jason Bridges spent his teenage years working on a golf course in Georgia, where he became fascinated with the science and care behind maintaining a healthy, beautiful landscape.
“I started working on the golf course when I was a teen and fell in love with growing grass,” he says. “It inspired me to pursue a degree in Turfgrass Management.”
“I started working on the golf course when I was a teen and fell in love with growing grass,” he says. “It inspired me to pursue a degree in Turfgrass Management.”
Today, Bridges is the owner of Weed Man Triad, a lawn care company he founded in 2007 that has spent nearly two decades helping homeowners maintain healthier lawns across the region.
Bridges grew up in Georgia and attended the University of Georgia, where he focused on turfgrass management. His early career kept him close to the environment that first sparked his interest. After graduating, he worked on golf courses as an assistant superintendent, learning firsthand the science and discipline required to maintain top-quality turf.
In 1999, Bridges moved to North Carolina for a position at Tanglewood Park Golf Course. The move turned into something much bigger than a job opportunity. It’s where he met his wife, Keely, and where the couple eventually built their life together. The Triad has been home ever since.
Over time, Bridges began thinking about a new direction for his career. While he loved the turf industry, he also had a strong desire to run his own company. Small business ownership was familiar territory. His family owned a pest control company, and that experience left a lasting impression.
“I grew up in a small business family with the pest control company that my family owned,” Bridges explains. “Maybe it’s in my DNA. I always had the desire to run my own business and offer a service people really need.”
That combination of experience and motivation led him to start Weed Man Triad in 2007. As the company approaches its 20-year milestone, Bridges says the mission has remained consistent.
“Our mission has never changed since we started,” he says. “We want to be the best lawn care company out there. That might sound simple, but we mean it. We want to offer technology, services, expertise, and guidance that other companies don’t.”
From Golf Course Knowledge to Residential Lawns
Bridges’ background in turfgrass management plays a major role in how the company approaches lawn care. The same principles used to maintain high-quality golf course turf also apply to residential lawns, and his team focuses on helping homeowners understand what their grass needs to thrive.
Weed Man Triad offers several annual lawn care plans designed to fit different property sizes and budgets. These programs focus on maintaining healthy grass through proper fertilization, weed control, and seasonal treatments.
“We love diagnosing lawn problems and figuring out what’s going on,” Bridges says. “Growing grass well takes knowledge and attention, and that’s the part we really enjoy.”
Beyond traditional lawn treatments, the company offers a variety of additional programs that address common challenges homeowners face. These include mosquito control, landscape bed weed control, and health programs for trees and shrubs.
The goal is to provide a complete approach to outdoor spaces rather than focusing only on the lawn itself.
Specialized Treatments for Healthier Turf
In addition to annual lawn plans, Weed Man Triad provides specialty services designed to strengthen turf and address specific issues that can develop throughout the year.
Among those services are aeration and seeding, which help relieve soil compaction and promote new growth. The company also provides insect and disease control treatments, crabgrass prevention, grub control, and soil pH management.
Another option is organic soil enhancement, which helps improve soil structure and nutrient availability over time.
Many of these services were added in response to requests from customers. Bridges says listening to those needs has helped the business grow.
“All of our additional programs really came from customer questions,” he explains. “People would ask if we could spray their landscape beds or help with tree and shrub care. When there’s a need and our customers want it, we try to accommodate that.”
Technology has also shaped how the company operates. Today, homeowners can visit the Weed Man Triad website and receive an instant measurement and quote for their property. Communication has evolved as well.
“Texting has become the preferred form of communication for many people,” Bridges says. “We’ve adapted so we can communicate with customers in the ways that work best for them.”
Service Comes First
While lawn expertise is important, Bridges believes customer service is what truly separates a good company from a great one.
“We are outstanding at growing grass and diagnosing problems, and that’s the part we love,” he says. “But we also realize we’re in the service business first and foremost. Communication, follow-up, and working together with customers to achieve their goals are just as important.”
That mindset has helped Weed Man Triad build long-term relationships with homeowners across the region.
A Business Rooted in Community
Outside of day-to-day work, Bridges values the opportunity to be involved in the community where he lives and works. He and Keely have been married for 25 years and are raising three daughters, all currently in college.
He also believes small businesses should give back whenever possible. Weed Man Triad regularly supports local schools and youth sports organizations, and the company often provides turf care services for school and Little League athletic fields.
“We love being part of the community and supporting it however we can,” Bridges says.
One initiative Bridges is especially excited about is the company’s Grassroots Giving campaign. Through the program, Weed Man teams collect food donations from customers throughout the Triad and deliver them to local food banks. Last year alone, the broader organization collected more than 108,000 pounds of food.
Looking ahead, Bridges says the focus remains on growth and improvement. As Weed Man Triad approaches its 20-year anniversary, he hopes to continue expanding services, improving technology, and strengthening the customer experience.
“We want to keep learning, stay on top of industry standards, and keep finding ways to serve our customers better,” he says. “At the end of the day, we just want to keep helping people enjoy their lawns.”
