It was fun to see so many Sedgefield residents enjoying this year’s Wyndham Championship and the excitement of PGA TOUR golf, played right here on Sedgefield’s historic Donald Ross-designed course.
The tournament ended with a thrilling finish as 24-year-old Michael Brennan captured the second PGA TOUR victory of his career. The former Wake Forest Demon Deacon opened Sunday with five consecutive birdies on the front nine and never looked back, shooting a 6-under 64 to finish at 22-under par, three shots ahead of Beau Hossler. His victory earned Brennan a $1.53 million payday and a memorable birdie on the 18th to seal the win.
The Greensboro tournament has deep roots in our community, beginning at Sedgefield Country Club and Starmount Country Club in 1938. Over the years, the event has also been played at Forest Oaks Country Club before returning to Sedgefield in 2008, where it has remained ever since.
Now the seventh-oldest event on the PGA TOUR, the Greensboro event has welcomed golf legends including Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Gary Player and Tiger Woods.
After 20 years of Wyndham’s title sponsorship, tournament officials have confirmed that the Greensboro event will continue. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for this beloved Greensboro tradition.
