Traveling Without your Furry Family Members

Weekend Vibes
This past year we adopted Brooklyn into our family. Brooklyn now serves as Cholewka Law’s Director of Puplick Relations! She has quickly become the MVP (Most Valuable Pawtner) of our firm. Brooklyn is used to going to work every day, so when we travel without her, her daily routine is disrupted.
As families head off to summer vacations soon, it can be difficult on their pets. Here are a few tips to ensure the safety and well-being of your furry family members.
1. Interview pet sitters and get references from trusted friends and family. Try to book early as
pet sitters get busy during high travel season. Leave detailed care instructions for each pet.
2. Leave a signed note authorizing your sitter to seek medical treatment for your pet and that
you will be responsible for the bill. Leave your vet’s information and a 24-hour vet
emergency facility near you.
3. If you have a pet who is an escape artist, alert neighbors that you will be away and ask them
to keep on eye out for your Houdini. Make sure to micro-chip your pet to ensure their safe
return when found. Also make sure this service is still in business before you go. “Save This
Life” registry recently closed unexpectantly. If you used this service, re-register with another.
4. Ask your sitter to put on a few TV shows throughout the day to keep your pet company. Our
cat Bella enjoyed staring at the TV “aquarium.”
5. If your dog won’t be getting her normal 2-mile walks every day, consider enrolling your dog
in a day camp once or twice while you are gone. We arrange this for Brooklyn, as she gets
very bored without her normal schedule.
No matter if you travel, always carry a card in your wallet that states: “In case of emergency, please contact the following to care for my pets.” Add a few names and phone numbers and make sure these individuals have access to your home.
I hope these tips are helpful as you head out to make vacation memories. From our whole team at Cholewka Law, especially Brooklyn, we wish you safe travels and a quick return!
