AI, as defined by artificial intelligence, seems to be a hot topic across every industry and everywhere I look. Some people think it’s the greatest thing ever while other people think we’re quickly getting closer to John Connor fighting the T-1000. I want to take a different spin on AI though. While some of the world moves more toward technology, away from creative writing and thinking, and into trusting the algorithm for everything I’d like to redefine AI as Authentic Interactions.

In my opinion, people crave connection with other people. Real connections and authentic interactions seem to be diminishing as we move toward the future. But in some pockets of our society, AI is starting to be rejected and digital technology is getting a pushback for things we can touch and feel. Tactile media such as this publication in its paper form are experiencing a resurgence. Young people are rejecting games and other media moving to all-digital and are trying to save discs they can own and vinyl records they can play. The organization of social settings and opportunities for people to meet and talk face to face and connect may be more rare but also more valued every day.

Our mission with this publication, as you’ve probably read in many of my Publisher’s Notes is to connect neighbors while we introduce businesses and give through partnerships with nonprofits. All of this starts with a connection, with a conversation, with an authentic interaction with somebody in our community whether they are a resident in the neighborhood or someone running a local small business. Every time you call one of our advertisers and do business with them it furthers our mission. Every time you submit photos or an article for us to publish it helps us move forward. Every time you come volunteer or support one of the fundraisers or events that we do it helps us continue our mission. And ultimately it’s about creating more authentic interactions between neighbors, with top local businesses, and for these non profits were connected to. So, I want you to think about AI not just as artificial intelligence that is changing our world broadly but to think of AI as an opportunity for authentic interactions that is making our local community more connected.
