Founded by Ian Chappell in 2012, the company has grown from a one-man operation into a team of approximately 20 employees while staying true to the same values it was built on from the beginning.

A lifelong Floridian, Ian was raised on a dairy farm in Indiantown, where hard work and responsibility were simply part of everyday life. Growing up in a small-town environment taught him the importance of keeping your word, taking pride in your work, and doing things the right way—values that would later become the foundation of his business.

Ian entered the landscape and irrigation industry while he was still in high school, working for a local lawn and landscape company. What began as a job quickly developed into a career. Over the years, he gained hands-on experience in irrigation, landscape installation, project management, and customer service, while learning what it took to build lasting relationships with customers.

In 2012, Ian decided to take that experience and start a company of his own. IC Irrigation began as a one-person operation, with Ian handling the work himself and building the business job by job. Through hard work, word-of-mouth referrals, and the support of his family, the company steadily grew. As demand increased, so did the services and team, eventually expanding into what is now IC Irrigation and In Control Landscape.

Today, the company works on residential, commercial, and community properties throughout the Treasure Coast and surrounding areas. Services include irrigation installation and repair, landscape installation and enhancements, drainage solutions, landscape lighting, and ongoing property improvements. Whether the project is large or small, the goal remains the same: to create outdoor spaces that are attractive, functional, and built to last.

While the company has grown, it has remained very much a family operation. Ian’s wife, Tara, has been involved from the beginning and manages the office and many of the company’s day-to-day operations. Their daughter, Jaden, is also actively involved in the business, assisting in the office, working with customers, and helping oversee projects in the field. For Ian, seeing the company become something his family can build together has been one of the most rewarding parts of its growth.

That sense of family also extends into the community. The Chappells believe strongly in supporting the area that has supported their business for so many years. One tradition especially important to the family is supporting local youth through the Martin County Fair and livestock programs, where they are consistently among the fair’s top buyers. Their involvement helps support local students, agriculture programs, and young people who share many of the same values of hard work and responsibility that Ian grew up with.

Even as IC Irrigation and In Control Landscape continues to take on larger projects and new opportunities, Ian does not want the company to lose the personal service that helped build its reputation. To him, a handshake still means something. Your word matters, promises should be kept, and customers deserve honest communication and dependable service.

That same approach carries into the company’s work. Ian encourages property owners to stay proactive with their landscapes and irrigation systems rather than waiting for small problems to become expensive ones. Routine inspections can identify broken sprinkler heads, leaks, drainage issues, or improper watering early. Choosing plants and landscape designs that are appropriate for Florida’s climate can also help reduce unnecessary water use and maintenance while keeping properties looking their best throughout the year.

More than a decade after Ian first started the company on his own, IC Irrigation and In Control Landscape continues to grow, but its foundation has remained the same. Ian, Tara, Jaden, and their team are committed to providing quality work, dependable service, and personal attention while continuing to support the community they call home.

At its core, the company is still what Ian set out to build in 2012: a local, family-run business where hard work matters, relationships matter, and people stand behind their word.
