Resident Business Spotlight
Silverleaf Media Group: "Our vision is to build an approachable, home-grown media company that tells stories that matter."
Tell us a little about how Silverleaf Media Group came to be. What inspired you to start this company, and how did the three of you come together? Silverleaf Media Group began after the three of us connected around a compelling story from writer and producer Stephen Meier, an ASU graduate. As Silverleaf neighbors, Steve Eckert and Mitch Kaye were drawn into Stephen’s work and quickly recognized the potential of his stories. We felt that by joining forces, we could bring these narratives—and many others—to life in meaningful and impactful ways.
What is the mission or vision behind Silverleaf Media Group? What sets your approach to storytelling and content creation apart from others in the industry? Our vision is to build an approachable, home-grown media company that tells stories that matter. We want to tap into the incredible talent in our own community and be the people who will read a script or listen to an idea that might never reach a traditional Hollywood desk. Just as importantly, we hope to provide educational opportunities to aspiring students, offering them hands-on experience and access to professionals who can help them grow.
Can you share a bit about your first major project? Our first major project, Debutantes, is a story of female empowerment. Scheduled to begin filming in early 2026, the film tackles the serious issue of sexual assault through the lens of a revenge thriller. The cast has been deeply moved by the story, and their passion and commitment have reinforced its importance and urgency.
How does your background — especially as Silverleaf residents and an ASU graduate — influence your perspective or creative style? Our backgrounds—both as residents of Silverleaf and, in Stephen’s case, as an ASU graduate—strongly influence our approach to creative work. Silverleaf has given us a deep sense of community, collaboration, and connection, values that naturally translate to how we create. Stephen’s experience at ASU exposed him to diverse ideas and perspectives, strengthening his belief that impactful storytelling comes from teamwork and mutual respect. Across all our work, we aim to elevate stories that reflect the bonds, relationships, and shared experiences that shape us.
The entertainment industry is evolving rapidly, especially with AI. How do you see AI shaping the future of film and media, and how are you using it in your work? Technology, including AI, is rapidly transforming the entertainment landscape. While story and message must always remain at the center, we recognize that audiences consume content in many different ways. To meet them where they are, we embrace new tools—whether they support actors, enhance writing, or make visual effects more attainable. Still, we believe that the human experience remains the heart of great storytelling, and technology should enhance creativity, not replace it.
What part of the creative process do you find most rewarding — concept development, production, or seeing the final product come to life? Each of us values different parts of the creative process, but the most rewarding moment is seeing a finished project make an impact. The journey from a concept to the screen can be long and challenging, so watching audiences connect with a final product is incredibly gratifying.
Building a media company from the ground up is no small task. What challenges have you faced so far, and how have you overcome them? Building a media company requires resilience, discipline, and strong financial planning. As founders and investors ourselves, we take a strategic approach: we rigorously test the market for every project and use a proven de-risked model to ensure competitive returns for our investors. Our internal motto—“the cap does not come off the lens if the math doesn’t add up”—keeps us focused and grounded. Collaboration with like-minded partners further strengthens our ability to deliver transparency, stability, and long-term success.
What do you hope Silverleaf Media Group contributes to the creative community here in Arizona and beyond? We hope Silverleaf Media Group inspires creativity within Arizona and beyond. We want to encourage people to share their passions and partner with local institutions, including universities and nonprofits, to expand access to professional-level training in the arts.
Finally, what’s next? Any exciting upcoming projects or collaborations you can give us a sneak peek of? Looking ahead, we’re thrilled about the diverse projects in our pipeline. Ninja Girl is progressing across multiple platforms, including gaming, merchandise, webtoons, and animated shorts, set for release in mid-2026. Teaching Pandas to Swim, an AI-generated romance, recently premiered its teaser at K-Con in Hong Kong. The Drop brings high-energy action in a heist-driven narrative. And for music fans, we’re developing a project about the intertwined lives of Prince and Morris Day—an exciting journey through music history inspired by a chance encounter with Morris Day and The Time.
