Meet Matthias Coleman

March Madness: A Rancho Solano Student's Love for the Game

Meet Matthias Coleman, a sophomore at Rancho Solano Preparatory School. He has lived in DC Ranch for approximately seven years with his parents, Lauri and Jeff, and his younger brother, Will. Matthias’s family also includes three dogs—Frank, Hank, and Harlow.

Matthias started playing basketball in first grade. While he doesn’t clearly remember exactly when he began, he has always been very fond of the sport. What he enjoys most is having fun with his teammates, along with the teamwork and camaraderie that basketball brings.

One of Matthias’s most memorable basketball experiences so far was traveling to Canada with his team, where he had an amazing time. His greatest personal accomplishment has been scoring 37 points in a game against Scottsdale Christian Academy, as well as competing in close, hard-fought games. Matthias contributes leadership, strong team chemistry, and a fun, positive atmosphere to his team.

Balancing school, basketball, and life outside of sports takes dedication, and Matthias manages it by staying consistent with his diet, making sure he’s in the gym every day, and setting aside time on the weekends to be with friends and family.

Matthias’s favorite basketball team is the Phoenix Suns, mainly because of Devin Booker and their Arizona roots. Although his favorite player is Cameron Payne, who is no longer active, Matthias understands that athletes can disappoint you or make mistakes. He believes the only things that will always be there for him are basketball and himself.

After high school, Matthias hopes to continue playing basketball, even though he knows it may be challenging. At the same time, he is interested in pursuing a career in sales and stock trading.
