Shelly and Jesse Cornish, a husband-and-wife team, share how Castle Peak Senior Life & Rehabilitation is redefining senior living with a focus on continuity, connection, and confidence for residents and families.

In the heart of Eagle County, Castle Peak Senior Life & Rehabilitation offers a thoughtful approach to senior living—one that prioritizes independence, personalized care, and the ability to age in place. As a full-continuum community, it provides residents and families with both flexibility and long-term peace of mind. In response to our questions, Shelly and Jesse Cornish share their perspective on what makes Castle Peak a trusted and valued part of the Eagle Valley.

For readers who may not be familiar with Castle Peak, can you tell us a little about the community and the types of services and living options you offer?

Castle Peak is a premier, full-continuum senior living community located in Eagle, Colorado. We provide assisted living, and skilled nursing, skilled nursing memory care and skilled nursing short term rehab—all within one campus. This allows residents to age in place with confidence, knowing that as their needs evolve, they won’t have to leave the community they call home. Families choose Castle Peak not just for today’s needs, but for long-term peace of mind and the ability to stay in the Eagle Valley.

What does everyday life at Castle Peak look like for residents?

Life at Castle Peak is built around choice, independence, and engagement. Residents have access to a full calendar of fitness programs, social events, and enrichment opportunities designed to keep them active and connected. At the same time, there is no one-size-fits-all approach—residents maintain control over their schedules and routines. Whether someone prefers a full day of activities or a quiet morning with mountain views, the lifestyle adapts to them.

What do you feel makes Castle Peak special or sets it apart from other senior living communities?

What sets Castle Peak apart is the combination of personalized care, strong community culture here in the Eagle Valley, and an unmatched setting in the Eagle Valley. We are intentional about building relationships—our staff know residents by name, understand their preferences, and take pride in delivering highly individualized care. This is not an institutional environment; it’s a community where people feel a true sense of community.

Castle Peak is a nonprofit and part of Cassia. What does that mean for residents and families, and how does that shape the way you operate?

As a nonprofit community and part of Cassia, our priorities are fundamentally different from for-profit providers. Every dollar is reinvested back into the community—enhancing staffing, improving services, and upgrading the resident experience. This structure allows us to focus on long-term quality rather than short-term margins. For residents and families, that translates into consistency, stability, and trust.

As a non-profit, what can the community do to support Castle Peak?

Community involvement plays a direct role in the quality of life at Castle Peak. Volunteers, local partnerships, and philanthropic support allow us to expand programming, enhance services, and create more meaningful experiences for residents. As a nonprofit, those contributions have a direct and visible impact—they help us go beyond the baseline and deliver something exceptional.
How do you support seniors through different stages of life and care needs, and what does that continuity of care look like at Castle Peak?

One of the most important advantages of Castle Peak is true continuity of care. Residents can transition seamlessly between assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care and short-term rehab without leaving familiar surroundings. That continuity reduces stress, preserves relationships, and ensures a higher level of personalized care over time. It also gives families confidence that they won’t have to navigate another major transition down the road miles and hours away from the Eagle Valley.

What are some of the biggest misconceptions people have about senior living today?

A common misconception about senior living is that it represents a loss of independence. In reality, the opposite is often true. Residents gain freedom from home maintenance, isolation, and the uncertainty of managing care alone. They gain access to support, social connection, and a more engaging lifestyle. Today’s senior living communities are active, dynamic environments—not the outdated models many people still imagine.

Moving into senior living can be a big transition for both residents and their families. How do you help make that process feel more comfortable and supportive?

We understand that moving into senior living is a significant decision, both emotionally and logistically. Our approach is direct, supportive, and highly personalized. We guide families step-by-step, providing clarity at every stage—from initial conversations to move-in day and beyond. By removing uncertainty and simplifying the process, we help families move forward with confidence rather than hesitation.

Shelly, what first drew you to this field, and what do you enjoy most about your role as Executive Director?

I was drawn to this field by the opportunity to lead with purpose and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. As Executive Director, what I value most is building a strong, accountable team and creating an environment where residents feel safe, respected, and genuinely at home. Seeing that impact on a daily basis is what drives the work.

Jesse, what do you enjoy most about helping families as they explore whether Castle Peak might be the right fit?

What I enjoy most is helping families cut through the noise and make informed decisions quickly and confidently. This can be an overwhelming process, and my role is to bring clarity, honesty, and direction. When a family finds the right solution and feels an immediate sense of relief, that’s when I know we’ve delivered real value.

As a husband-and-wife team, what has it been like to work together at Castle Peak, and what do you each find most meaningful about being part of this community?

Working together as a husband-and-wife team allows us to stay aligned, decisive, and focused on outcomes. We bring different strengths, but share the same standards and expectations. What matters most is the impact we’re making—building a community where residents feel supported, families feel confident, and our team takes pride in the work they do every day.
