Growing CNY Safely

Why Supporting Vera House Matters More Than Ever for a Growing CNY
Central New York is on the cusp of a transformation. With Micron's massive chip plant coming to Clay and tens  of thousands of new jobs projected in the years ahead, our region could see its population climb significantly  over the next two decades. New residents mean new neighbors, new employees, and new families putting down  roots here. It also means our community's safety net, including services for domestic and sexual violence  survivors, needs to grow right alongside us.

Vera House has served Upstate New York for nearly 50 years, providing emergency shelter, counseling,  advocacy, and prevention education to thousands of survivors each year. As CNY's population and workforce  expand, demand for these services will rise too. A community can't sustain healthy economic growth if it  doesn't also invest in the infrastructure that keeps families and workplaces safe.

The Business Case Nobody Talks About
Domestic violence isn't just a private tragedy; it's a workplace issue with real costs to employers. National  research consistently shows that abuse follows victims to work. Large majorities of survivors report their ability  to work was disrupted, and many are harassed, distracted, or unable to concentrate on the job. Employers absorb  the fallout through absenteeism, tardiness, turnover, higher healthcare costs, and lost productivity. Estimates of  the nationwide toll run into the billions of dollars annually in lost workdays and productivity alone.

For businesses expanding or relocating to CNY, this isn't abstract statistics, it's a bottom-line issue. A workforce  that isn't supported outside of work can't perform at its best inside of it. Every employer bringing jobs to this  region has a stake in making sure survivors have somewhere to turn.

How You Can Help
Vera House relies on community support to keep pace with need, and one of the most effective ways to help is  by becoming a monthly donor. Recurring gifts, even modest ones, give the organization predictable funding to  plan ahead, respond immediately to crisis calls, and expand services as our population grows. Unlike one-time  donations, monthly giving builds sustainable capacity for the long haul. To become a Champion of Change for  Vera House, visit www.verahouse.org/champions-of-change. As Central New York grows, our commitment to the people who call it home should grow too.
Supporting Vera House isn't just the right thing to do, it's an investment in a safer, stronger,  more resilient community and workforce for whatever comes next.
