There is no mistaking the presence of Mister Belvedere III as he strolls through Snell Isle. This three-year-old English Bulldog belongs to Donna and Ed Cothron, and he has the kind of character that makes neighbors smile before they even realize they are smiling.

Mister Belvedere’s story begins with a long line of lovingly raised bulldogs from Slaterpryce Bulldogs, a family-run breeder in Uniontown, Ohio. The Cothrons describe the experience as becoming part of the Slaterpryce family. Their puppies grow up surrounded by affection, and Mister Belvedere arrived with that same foundation of care.

His memorable name has become a running tradition in their home. Years ago, Donna had a friend whose boyfriend was a rather proper Englishman who reminded everyone of the classic TV butler, Mr. Belvedere. When the Cothrons brought home their first English Bulldog, the resemblance in attitude was uncanny, and the nickname stuck. Now, with Mister Belvedere III, the legacy continues.

Although his lineage includes impressive show history, including a connection to a Westminster Best in Breed winner, Mister Belvedere III is all about family life. He is affectionately known as the household’s baby hippopotamus, and he stands out for a trait not often found in his breed. He loves the water. Sprinklers, hoses, the ocean, even a splashy puddle will do. While most English Bulldogs prefer to keep their paws dry, Mister Belvedere happily proves otherwise.

He also has a talent for joining family activities. When the UNO cards come out, so does his enthusiasm. His preferred role may be supervisory, but he brings the same commitment he displays in all aspects of daily life.

On the spoil scale, Mister Belvedere is an unquestionable 12 out of 10. Donna and Ed adore him, not only for his sweet personality but for the joy he brings to their home and to the neighborhood. He is a reminder that tradition, family and a little playful mischief can come together in one very special bulldog.
