Amanda Nickolay and the St. Petersburg Junior Woman’s Club

For the past three years, Amanda Nickolay has been making a powerful impact in her community through her work with the St. Petersburg Junior Woman’s Club. As President of the organization, Amanda leads a dedicated group of women who share a passion for service, fundraising, and supporting local nonprofits.
Drawn to the club by its unique combination of friendship and community engagement, Amanda found a space where she could connect with like-minded women, form lasting friendships, and dedicate her energy to meaningful causes. Together, the club members organize creative fundraisers, volunteer at shelters, food banks, schools, and other local nonprofits, and support families and children across the St. Petersburg area. On average, Amanda spends four to six hours each week volunteering her time to help make a difference.
This year, the club received a $1,000 One Voice for Children grant from the General Federation of Women’s Clubs to support community literacy. With the funds, they purchased books for the Competitive Readers Coalition, a grassroots program led by Antonio Brown, a local barbershop owner and community advocate. Through his shop, Antonio has created a safe and inspiring space where young people gather not only for haircuts but also for encouragement, mentorship, and reading support. The donated books were distributed directly to students, many of whom are working to strengthen their reading skills and discover a lifelong love of learning. The project was especially meaningful as it tied in with the club’s celebration of World Literacy Day, reinforcing their commitment to education, imagination, and opportunity.
Amanda’s passion for service extends to her family as well. She and her husband are raising four children and a golden retriever, and her 17-year-old daughter often joins her in volunteering and helping with projects.
For Amanda, the St. Petersburg Junior Woman’s Club is more than just an organization. It’s a community of strong, compassionate women working side by side to create positive change. To get involved, she encourages others to visit gfwc-spjwc.org, attend a meeting, or sign up to volunteer at one of their events. Every helping hand makes a difference!
