DIxie Hill

Dixie Hill, a German Shorthaired Pointer, is perhaps one of the cutest and most iconic dogs in Spaulding Farms. Most residents will recognize her from the lots of walks she takes with her family (Patrick, Erin, JP, and Emmy) or from her numerous playdates with Rosie Balon (written about in the March issue).

At ten years old, Dixie’s favorite activities range from playing in the backyard, mostly chasing tennis balls and squirrels, or sunbathing in her favorite spot to sleep, the patch of sun from a glass window inside the Hills’ house. It’s also not uncommon to find Dixie lounging in her favorite chair, which is actually Emerson’s (it has her initials on it). Though she doesn’t like water and doesn’t swim, if her tennis ball lands in the pool, she’ll come wade into the shallow part to retrieve (only if it’s absolutely required). This summer she’ll definitely be out keeping an eye on Emmy, JP, and their friends while they play and relax in the backyard pool.

Memories with Dixie are plentiful in the Hill house, but a specific favorite of the Hills’ youngest, Emmy, is when she went to K9 camp with Dixie and got to train her. JP and Erin both have a similar favorite memory/tradition: Erin’s is snuggling with Dixie, and JP’s is sitting in a specific blue chair together in their house.

How Dixie came into the Hill family is simple: Erin knew the breeder and they decided to adopt her. Actually, Patrick’s favorite memory about Dixie was when he rode with their (Emmy and JP’s) grandfather to pick up Dixie from the breeder. Because she’s so sweet, the family named her Dixie, after the brand of sugar. She quickly became a vital part of their daily dynamic and now is a beloved part of the family.

Unlike most dogs who enjoy chowing down on some bacon, steak, or dog treats, Dixie’s favorite food is cheese, specifically American Cheese. Her favorite way of getting your attention for basically anything is a gentle little nudge with her snout, and she loves hanging out on her portion of the couch (adorned with a blanket so she doesn’t shed on the regular part) with her family to watch sports or cuddle up for a movie.

Dixie the dog is a large part of the Hill family, making sure they’re active and happy, and they certainly are very grateful for her. Dixie’s existing part in keeping the family happy and carefree, just like her, is what she’s all about.
