Do you know Coal?

Coal the dog is one of the most beloved animals in the community of Spaulding Farms. A one year-old cockapoo, Coal is a little bundle of joy! Though he hasn’t been with the Martin family long, he’s certainly made himself comfortable in it.

Coal came into the family not too long ago as a Christmas present for Anderson, Hannah Greene-Martin’s 13-year-old son. He first saw Coal when they went to go look at a breeder to get an idea about what kind and personality they wanted if they were to get a dog. The specific breeder, Grace Filled Goldens, was recommended by several of Hannah‘s friends. They went out to the breeder to scope out some prospects. According to Hannah, “the moment my son saw Coal he completely fell in love with him, and we knew that he was coming home with us“. The final terms set between the mother and son duo was that Anderson got all A’s and B’s for an entire semester. After successfully, completing the conditions, Hannah surprised Anderson with Coal in the car line when he was getting out of school. Not only was it an all A’s and B’s present for Coal it was also a Christmas gift. Because of this, they decided to name their new dog “Coal” as a joke that Anderson got “charcoal” for Christmas.

Like all dogs, Coal has his favorites, such as toys, foods, and spots to hang out or sleep. Coal’s favorite food is pretzels. This love for the savory treat, started out when one of his owners would grab a handful to eat, and they’d give him one. Eventually, his love for them came to such greatness that every time they’d open the container he would get very excited.

After an afternoon snack, Coal loves to chew on an elk antler, which is something that has lasted longer than any of his other toys. He loves to destroy stuffed soft toys, and they only last an hour in his house. To take a break after one of his very common walks, Coal’s favorite place to sleep is on top of an air vent so he can cool off faster. However, his favorite spot to sleep at night is under Hannah’s bed, and by morning he has made his way onto her bed.

Coal has one specific behavior that is very out of the ordinary. Whenever he is curious, he likes to walk around on his back legs. This trick is a big crowd, pleaser and always makes people laugh.

Even though Coal hasn’t been in the family long, he’s quickly become a big part of the Martin tradition and Spaulding Farms. If you ever see him on one of his classic walks, be sure to give him lots of pets (and bonus points if you have some pretzels for him!).
