While Logan, Lena, and Tessa Perumal are busy getting ready for school, Sage has already secured the best seat in the house: her comfy dog bed in the home office. Sage is a sweet natured dog who loves people. She’s an eight year old mutt, and when she got a DNA test, they found out she was part Coonhound, Boxer, Lab, and Saint Bernard.

 
The name Sage was a perfect fit for a variety of reasons. For one, she was wise enough not to mess with their late dog, Batman. The name also cleverly connects Liza’s love for gardening and the aromatic herb, with her husband’s enthusiasm for fly fishing—naming the dog after a well-known company in the sport. 

While her name honors Liza’s garden and her husband’s fishing gear, it also celebrates her wisdom in coexisting with their beloved late dog, Batman. The family’s journey with Sage actually began at the Greenville Humane Society. Knowing Batman needed a companion, they headed to the shelter where Liza had been volunteering, hoping to find a dog whose temperament would be the perfect match for Batman’s. They met with a few dogs until landed on Sage who they decided was the best fit for the family. The day after Sage was brought home, she began running around the house with her new brother, which Batman hadn’t done in years.

Life in Spaulding Farms offers plenty of room for Sage to enjoy her favorite hobbies, whether she’s chasing after her #1 toy (a stuffed flower toy)  in the house or hanging out on top of a giant tree trunk in the backyard.

 Though she’s not super food-driven, Sage will be seen occasionally having a snack. Her favorite things to eat are salmon (yum!) and bacon (tasty!). One of Perumals’ favorite memories/things to do with Sage is to go on hikes, which she loves. Another thing they like to do is go on car rides with Sage. She used to get carsick, but now she’s outgrown that, so she really enjoys it.

As the 2026 winter season settles over our neighborhood, you’ll likely see Sage and her family enjoying the crisp (but sometimes weirdly wam) air while going on a walk, playing in the yard, or hiking. She’s an amazing dog who’s incredibly well behaved and definitely beloved by everyone in the household and everyone who meets her. Whether she’s hard at 'work' on her beauty sleep in the home office or out walking the neighborhood streets with the kids, Sage is a beautiful reminder of the joy a well-loved dog brings to our community.
