Meet Your Neighbor: The Lobb Family

There’s something special about a family that brings both a global story and a genuine hometown heart to Spaulding Farm—and the Lobb family does exactly that.

David and Rebecca Lobb, along with their three energetic children—Elie (12), Imogen (9), and Gabe (7)—have been part of the neighborhood since July 2023. In that short time, they’ve woven themselves seamlessly into the fabric of the community, especially poolside.

A Journey Across Continents
David Lobb, 46, is a pediatric plastic surgeon with Prisma Health whose work reflects both precision and compassion. South African born and recently a proud U.S. citizen, David has lived in six countries—including England, Austria, and New Zealand—bringing a rich global perspective to everything he does.

He attended medical school in England before completing his Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Following that, he completed a fellowship in Pediatric Craniofacial Plastic Surgery in Cincinnati, further refining his passion for caring for infants and adolescents navigating congenital differences or injuries.
Outside the operating room, David’s intensity doesn’t slow down—it just shifts gears. A licensed private pilot, he spends much of his free time flying his Cessna 182, where the same discipline and focus that guide his surgical work carry into the cockpit. He’s also an avid mountain and road cyclist and recently completed the 61-mile Ride to the Rock, climbing to the top of Sassafras Mountain. Add motorcycle riding and international travel to the list, and it’s safe to say David thrives on adventure.

Rebecca, 43, brings her own quiet strength and joy to the family. Originally from Sumter, South Carolina, she is a kindergarten teacher at Oakview Elementary School. A graduate of UNC Chapel Hill with a degree in Elementary Education, she is currently working toward a Gifted and Talented endorsement on her South Carolina teaching license.
Rebecca considers it a privilege to spend her days with young learners. Her warmth, patience, and steady presence are hallmarks not only in her classroom but also at home. This summer, she’ll be serving as co-president of the Spaulding Farm Swim Team—a role she’s excited to take on as a way to give back to the neighborhood that has welcomed her family so wholeheartedly.

When she’s not teaching or coordinating swim meets, Rebecca enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, playing mahjong, and spending time with friends and family.

A Love Story That Spans the Globe
David and Rebecca’s story began with a chance meeting at a wedding in Hendersonville, North Carolina. At the time, David was living abroad and visiting the United States for the first time. After meeting at the reception, they stayed in touch via email until Rebecca eventually joined David in New Zealand, where he had accepted a registrar post in General Surgery in Auckland.

They lived there for a year, explored the breathtaking South Island, got engaged, and ultimately decided to move to the United States to get married and begin their family. Since then, they’ve lived in two countries and four states before finally settling in Greenville when David accepted his current position with Prisma. Spaulding Farm has become the chapter they were waiting for.

Three Kids, Three Big Personalities
Elie, 12, is a sixth grader at Beck Academy whose curiosity and enthusiasm light up every room she enters. She has a deep love for horseback riding, where her confidence and connection with animals shine. Elie is also an active Girl Scout, treasuring the friendships and service opportunities that come with it. In the pool, she swims competitively year-round with YSSC and balances that dedication with her academic life. Her determination, teamwork, and joyful spirit make her a natural leader among her peers.

Imogen, 9, is a fourth grader at Oakview Elementary and brings a vibrant energy to everything she does. A competitive swimmer for both Spaulding Farm’s summer team and YSSC year-round, she thrives on friendly competition and teamwork. Outside the pool, she loves gymnastics and singing at home—filling the house with both movement and music.
Her vivacious personality and warm heart make it easy for her to make friends wherever she goes.

Gabe, 7, is a first grader at Oakview and the definition of boundless energy. Whether he’s riding his bike, skateboarding, or organizing backyard pickup baseball games, he’s happiest outdoors. When inside, Gabe channels his creativity into Lego builds and imaginative art projects. Summer, however, is his favorite season—because summer means swim team. He’s well known for his signature “head tap” before races and for bringing enthusiasm and excitement to every meet. If you’ve been at the pool, you’ve probably seen him in action.

A Faithful Companion
Rounding out the Lobb family is Corelli, their 13-year-old rescue dog. Corelli joined the family before the kids arrived and has grown alongside them through every move and milestone. Calm, loyal, and perfectly suited for an active household, he remains a steady and beloved presence in their busy lives.

Finding Home in Greenville
Originally from Fort Myers, Florida before relocating to Greenville, the Lobbs knew they wanted a community that felt connected and engaged. They found it in Spaulding Farm. They love walking down Main Street in downtown Greenville, always making a stop at Byrd’s Cookie Company. The kids are big fans of Unity Park and the Swamp Rabbit Trail—places that allow them to burn energy and soak in Greenville’s charm. But when asked about their favorite neighborhood memory so far, there’s no hesitation. “Swim team,” they say.

From early morning practices to cheering at meets, the swim team has become the heartbeat of their Spaulding Farm experience. It’s where friendships are formed, laughter echoes across the pool deck, and families gather week after week.
The Lobbs try to participate in as many neighborhood events as possible and are grateful for the strong sense of camaraderie they’ve found here. Whether it’s Rebecca stepping into leadership on the swim team, David supporting events, or the kids diving headfirst into neighborhood activities, their commitment to community is evident.

Traditions Near and Far
The Lobb family typically spends Thanksgiving with Rebecca’s family and stays in Greenville for Christmas. David’s family lives in the UK, and they make frequent visits to see one another. This summer, they’re especially excited for a family reunion in France—another chapter in their international story.Through all the travel, adventures, and accomplishments, the thread that ties everything together is family.

A Community That Feels Like Family
In just over a year, the Lobb family has made Spaulding Farm more than just an address—it’s home.
With global roots, local commitment, and three swimmers who practically live at the pool in summer, the Lobbs embody the spirit of what makes this neighborhood special: connection, energy, and a genuine love for community.
If you see them around—likely near the starting blocks—be sure to say hello. Chances are, they’ll already feel like old friends.
