Meet Evey!

Between gymnastics five times a week, days at the golf club, and hangouts with neighborhood friends, the Furman family (Patrick, Krista, and Fiona) is quite busy! But they never forget to make time for their amazing dog, Evey.

Though she’s a Labrador Retriever, Evey doesn’t have the same personality as some of the other dogs you may know that are the same breed. At eight years old, she loves to sleep all the time, and the Furman family describes her as very lazy. She doesn’t run very much, doesn’t play too often, but every once in a while they’ll go for some walks, which Evey tolerates.

Though she’s not super affectionate, if you’re lucky, you may get a small cheek kiss after she’s gotten to know you. Evey has a few best friends (including myself) such as her family and some other neighborhood dogs. You’ll most likely find Evey chilling by the driveway or sleeping on Krista and Patrick’s bed. If she’s not doing that, then she’s cuddling with her family or eating her favorite food: peanut butter cake.

One of the weirdest (but also the sweetest) things about Evey is that she’s scared of EVERYTHING. Probably the biggest thing Evey is scared of is thunderstorms. She usually will hide in the downstairs guest bathroom throughout the entire storm, even after she’s gotten her anxiety meds.

Like many dogs, the Furmans got Evey from a breeder in Georgia, but she was actually born in Ireland! When they got Evey, the Furmans decided to give her a name similar to the dog they already had at the time, so Evey it was. Her middle name, Jean, is a nod to Patrick’s mother, Barbara Jean.

Patrick’s favorite memory with Evey was the day they brought her home. This is because Fiona was super happy and also wouldn’t stop caring for her new puppy. Krista’s favorite memory with Evey was during a walk along Spaulding Lake drive, where they went on the river trail. However, their walk took a turn when Evey fell into the lake. Krista just about had a heart attack because she was really scared Evey wouldn’t be able to get out of the lake. Turns out that part was pretty shallow and close to shore, so Evey managed to get herself out.

Fiona loves this one thing Evey does whenever the family is getting ready to leave: she puts her head on their feet while they’re tying their shoes so that they can’t leave. This shows how much she loves her people (and also how smart she is).
The Furman family has lots going on, but the biggest thing that keeps them centered in the busiest of times is their joyful, happy dog, Evey.
