Meet the Cohen Family: A Decade of Roots, Community, and Togetherness in Spaulding Farm
For the past ten years, the Cohen family has woven themselves into the fabric of Spaulding Farm—growing a garden of friendships, memories, and community spirit along the way. Warm, energetic, and deeply involved, they’re a family whose story beautifully blends hard work, cultural richness, and a whole lot of heart.
A Family Built on Purpose and Partnership
Joshua and Xiomara Cohen’s shared journey began far from Greenville—on the sun-soaked campus of Nova Southeastern University in Florida, where both were medical students. Joshua, originally from Florida, had completed his undergraduate studies in neuroscience and behavioral biology at Emory University. Xiomara, who grew up in Honduras before moving to the U.S., earned her undergraduate degree in dietetics and nutrition from Florida International University.
Medical school brought them not only a career path but each other. They married, moved to New York City, and spent six formative years building their medical careers amid the energy of the city. In 2015, an opportunity with Prisma Health brought them to Greenville, a decision they still count among their best. “Spaulding Farm immediately felt like home,” they shared. “We loved the sense of community from day one.”
The Cohen Crew
The Cohen family includes five vibrant personalities:
Xiomara (48) – A retired palliative care physician, now a dedicated homemaker, gardener, and family chef. She has an extraordinary talent for nurturing life—whether that’s children, plants, or the countless activities she organizes to keep the household running with warmth and style.
Joshua (45) – A gastroenterologist with GI Consultants at IMA Prisma Health, he’s admired by patients and colleagues alike. At home, he’s known as the master vacation planner and expert organizer—the one who discovers the best hidden-gem restaurants and curates family trips with precision and fun.
Maya (14) – A freshman at J.L. Mann High School, Maya blends athleticism and creativity. She plays soccer, loves art and fashion, and serves as the unofficial family photographer. If there’s a perfectly framed candid photo, Maya likely took it.
Myles (12) – A 7th grader at Langston Charter Middle School, Myles is the comedian of the family. His witty one-liners and easy humor keep everyone laughing. Whether at home or school, he’s known for being helpful, thoughtful, and always ready to jump in when someone needs a hand.
Oscar (8) – A 3rd grader at Oakview Elementary, Oscar is the family’s budding athlete. He plays soccer, basketball, and flag football, and has a natural sense of compassion that makes him a beloved friend to many.
Rounding out the household are two beloved pets: Leo, a 7-year-old indoor cat adopted from Foster Paws Rescue who loves watching birds and squirrels from the window; and Jake, a 7-year-old terrier mix from the Humane Society who never turns down a hug, kiss, or chance to roll joyfully in the grass.
Life in Spaulding Farm
If there’s an activity happening in the neighborhood, there’s a good chance the Cohens are involved. The kids participate in the Spaulding Farm swim team every summer, and the family volunteers at meets and community events. Each holiday season, they take part in the annual neighborhood luminary to help raise funds for the swim program—a tradition they treasure.
Xiomara is active in both the book club and gardening club, where her passion for nature and cultivated expertise inspire others. And as a family, they never miss a chance to explore the community together, from hiking at Connestee Park to strolling Falls Park, picking apples at Jeter Mountain in the fall, or indulging in treats at Jeremiah’s Italian Ice or Houni’s.
Their favorite restaurants include Lewis Barbecue, Southern Growl, The One5, and Stella’s Southern Bistro. They also love visiting the farmers markets in Greer and Travelers Rest for fresh produce and local goods—especially ingredients Xiomara can use in her cooking.
Celebrations and Traditions
Special occasions in the Cohen home are grounded in togetherness. Whether it’s sharing a meal at a favorite restaurant or preparing a special dish using ingredients from their garden, celebrations are less about extravagance and more about connection. “Spending time together is the heart of every celebration,” they say.
One of their most cherished neighborhood memories is the end-of-school celebration for the Oakview walkers. Parents line up with water guns to greet the kids on the last day of school—the laughter, fun, and community spirit creating a moment they look forward to every year. The festivities always wrap up with a gathering and Kona Ice, making it a favorite Cohen family tradition.
Why They Love Calling Spaulding Farm Home
For the Cohens, the best part of living in Spaulding Farm is the unmistakable sense of belonging. “Neighbors look out for one another,” they say. “There’s always something happening, and there’s a place for everyone.”
From the clubs to the activities, the schools to the friendships, they feel grateful to raise their children in a community that reflects their values—connection, care, and kindness.
After a decade in Spaulding Farm, the Cohens say there’s nowhere else they’d rather be. Their story is one of family, growth, and community—rooted deeply in the place they are proud to call home.
