Fernando Gets a Second Chance

Name: Fernando
Nickname: Fred…Fluff Bucket
Breed: Terrier mix
Current Age:
Family member names: Jim and Karen

How long has your pet been with you?
A little over a week.

WHERE and WHY did you get your Fernando?
Buddy’s Second Chance Rescue.   We lost our sweet Annabelle to an illness three years ago and knew that when the time was right we’d get another dog.

Is there a story behind its name or nickname?
Fluff bucket because he is a furball!

Anything special or unusual about them?
He’s extremely lovey and snuggly.  Fernando lays his head across my neck and just seems he can’t get close enough.

What are Fernando's favorite activities?
Walks…zoomies…tug.

What was the first command your pet learned and does your pet know any special tricks?
Fernando knows how to sit. It’s only a week so more to come!

What is the best memory involving your pet?
My mom had “westies” for years. When her last one passed she knew she couldn’t get another due to her age, but she missed her westie everyday.  After Annabelle passed she would always say “don’t you want a westie?” Truth is I wanted another Annabelle who was a chawinnie…a dachshund/chihuahua mix. Mom passed in May and I felt we could now look into another dog.  Fernando came up on the rescues’s website and I inquired.  Only after we adopted him and I looked at him close did I realize we had indeed adopted a westie!  Mom got her wish.

Does Fernando have any neighborhood pet friends?
He’s met Cobey, Cooper, Ozzi and Archie and wishes for a dog park!

What do you like best about your pet?
How snuggly he is!

What is the naughtiest thing Fernando has ever done?
He’s been a very good boy but the teen years are coming!!

What is the hardest thing about being a pet owner?
The commitment to proper training…potty training and behavior.  Also giving up a bit of freedom to come and go as we were used to at least in the short term.  Getting out of bed at 6:00 a.m. ‘cause somebody has had enough sleep!

What is the most rewarding thing about being a pet owner?
Companionship. Unconditional love.

How spoiled is your pet?
Although crate trained…Fernando sleeps in bed with us.

Where is your favorite place to go together?
We haven’t gone yet but we have a place on Sanibel Island and look forward to Fernando’s first trip!
