Year in Review

From January to December, Stroll Spring Lake has captured the stories of our neighbors—their successes, challenges, and heartfelt moments—painting a vibrant picture of a year filled with meaningful experiences.
Throughout 2024, Stroll magazine has shared the inspiring stories of our neighbors—their milestones, challenges, and memorable moments—offering a unique glimpse into a year of connection and community.  We tracked down and caught up with some of our 2024 spotlighted families as they offered a sneak peek into their plans for the New Year!

The Gravelyn Family
Marty made a change in real estate and has joined the Vis Realty Group @HomeRealty GH.  Dawn has opened up a retail space in Grand Haven for Elevate Your Everyday, a women's clothing boutique.  You can find her at 700 Washington Ave. Suite 100 as well as local pop-up in the pink mobile boutiques. It’s hard to miss this vehicle parked right outside her new brick-and-mortar. Jack and Grace are enjoying their junior and freshman years at WMC.  Liam is enjoying his sophomore year at SLHS. Jay Baik, our exchange student, and bonus son, is from South Korea and returned for another school year at WMC.  He will stay with us until he graduates in 2025.

The Vlasblom Family
The Vlasbloms are so very thankful the cold weather is finally here! Eagerly anticipating more winter snow, hikes, and ice fishing. Kaitlin is hoping that Amelia will love the snow just as much as she does! The entire family has enjoyed watching Amelia grow from a newborn to a peanut 8+-month-old. Gaining such a sweet personality, a playful smile, and those big beautiful brown eyes! She has found her voice and loves just talking away to whoever listens. Near the end of spring, Amelia will turn 1 year old followed by her older siblings (Goldendoodles, Luna, and Sully) both turning 8 next summer. They are very protective over her and love baby cuddles.  2025 will be a year of watching Amelia cross all those first-year milestones!

Paula and Jack Adkins
Our year in terms of our business adventures for Fabelastic Towels, we ended up attending and working three vendor shows! The National Surf Show in Orlando was the biggest opportunity for us and quite an eye-opener. Our business may be seasonal here, but nationwide the opportunity is year-round. We likely will be attending and sponsoring another booth in 2025 in Orlando again. On a personal level, we hit a milestone. We hit the 35-year mark on our marriage and celebrated with a plentiful summer boating on the big lake. 2025 is going to be a big year for us and we look forward to all it brings!

The Fazakerely Family
Since we were on the cover of the July issue, all the kids have started school. Lincoln was front and center for his performance at Grand Haven Christian for the Hispanic Heritage festive and made us so proud. This was our first year of the kids picking out their own costumes instead of a family-themed costume, they had so much fun! We will be headed on our very first family trip to Disney in January and can’t wait to see the magic on their faces. The mortgage business has been steady with new families buying dream homes with me. Our dog Agnes celebrated her 2nd birthday and is excited for more snow to come!

The Vis Family
Kody got an offer to play golf for Hope College next year. Jesse & Julia are still living in California working in marketing and doing a bunch of modeling for snowboarding companies and traveling for shoots. Ken and I will finish a record year in real estate (over $100 million In sales) Life is good and the outlook for 2025 looks exciting and bright!

The Okarskis
2024 has been incredible, but as we look ahead into this new year, we are always excited about what’s next for our family! The big trip on our calendar is a trip to Disney this upcoming February. It's an early birthday celebration for Tarah that our whole family is taking together to celebrate. The kids will continue on with their sports into the new year with an exciting addition of travel volleyball for Ellee and travel Lacrosse for Knox, which they are incredibly excited about!  Also, 2025 will be a huge year for Jacob as he helps open & operate a brand new gym in West Michigan, called The Yard Gym, located in Holland. We can’t wait for another year of making more family memories!

The Hill Family
The Hills have remained busy transitioning from football season into winter sports.  Gibson is playing Middle School Basketball and Parker is wrestling for Spring Lake High School. Brady is using his season off, lifting and preparing for spring baseball and next football season as well as volunteering for National Honors Society. Now we are hoping for weather conducive to downhill skiing and ice fishing. In 2025 we look forward to spending as much time together as possible with plans to travel to Florida for Spring Break and taking an Alaskan cruise for our family summer vacation as well as hitting a couple more MLB ballparks.  Brady and Parker are readying for their school trip to the Galapagos in early summer!

The Theunes
The Theune family has continued their busy lives with their three girls all running in unique directions. Kaiya will be spending her winter term in Brisbane, Australia, experiencing everything a study abroad has to offer. Ellie continues her coursework at  Hope College, supporting the theatre department in the area of hair and makeup. Nia has started basketball for her final season at Spring Lake High School while she awaits acceptance letters from all of her colleges. Nikki and David support them all in their efforts while also developing hobbies of their own: Nikki with yoga and David with pickleball. In 2025, the family anticipates Nia's graduation from high school and the start of empty nesting for Nikki and David.

The Cherney Family
Since they just divulged their lives in our most recent December issue, we asked Lynn and Clint what their plans were for 2025. They'll be hitting the slopes in Montana or Utah trip in February to ski, and a warm weather spring break, not sure of the destination yet, but maybe Puerto Rico again! The eldest son, Russ, gets his driver’s license in the spring, and Hazel will start high school in the fall. James is looking forward to participating in MS sports in the fall. They are also in the process of planning a summer trip to Alaska with extended family members.  So lots of traveling is on the agenda for the Cherneys in 2025!
