College H.U.N.K.S.: Moving with Purpose, Professionalism, & Patriotism
Melissa & Richard Purgason, owners
When Melissa and Richard Purgason opened their College H.U.N.K.S. Hauling Junk & Moving franchise in 2016, they had a simple goal: to build a business that reflected their values while providing a trusted, high-quality service to the community.
Nine years later, they’ve done just that. Today, their business offers moving services, house labor, and junk and donation removal across the Atlanta area, with a reputation for professionalism that sets them apart. In fact, they are proud to hold the highest-rated moving score in the Atlanta market—a reflection of both their team and the strong foundation they’ve built.
College H.U.N.K.S. stands for Honest. Uniformed. Nice. Knowledgeable. Service., and those values are woven into every job their team takes on. Melissa and Richard were drawn to this model because it fit perfectly with their background serving in their church’s college ministry and their desire to invest in people. What started as a leap into business ownership has grown into a mission-driven enterprise that provides excellent service—and helps young employees develop valuable skills they can carry into the future.
For Melissa and Richard, one of the most fulfilling aspects of their business is the opportunity to mentor their team—including their son, Brodie. As Operations Manager and a proud member of the U.S. National Guard, Brodie recently returned from a deployment with the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. His patriotism, leadership, and commitment to service embody the values Melissa and Richard aim to inspire throughout their team of 70 employees—many of whom are just beginning their careers. They take great pride in fostering a workplace culture built on accountability, teamwork, and personal growth.
The Purgasons are longtime locals, having lived in the area for more than 25 years. Married for 17 years, they met through their church and were married at the Sterling on the Lake Clubhouse. They are parents to four adult children and proud grandparents to ten grandchildren, some of whom live locally. They also enjoy time with their two family dogs—Samson, a labradoodle, and Ozzie, a bernedoodle.
When they’re not running their business, Melissa and Richard stay active in the community through their church, 12Stone, and through involvement in their grandchild’s school, with a particular heart for supporting children with special needs.
For the Purgasons, College H.U.N.K.S. Hauling Junk & Moving is about more than moving boxes—it’s about building relationships, empowering employees, and serving families in the moments that matter. And with every move, they’re proud to deliver not just service, but genuine care.
