Jim speaking at the Home of Hope Gala as Mayor Pro Tem
Local resident Jim Joedecke, an esteemed lawyer with twenty-seven years of experience, serves as an equity partner at the prestigious law firm of Andersen, Tate & Carr, P.C. With a keen focus on client success, Jim has cultivated a general litigation practice that spans diverse legal areas. His expertise includes contract and business disputes, real estate matters like ad valorem tax appeals, condemnation, and title disputes, as well as probate litigation, employment disputes, bankruptcy proceedings, and general litigation. In addition, Jim serves as outside counsel to a large franchisor, overseeing the day-to-day relations with more than 150 franchisees.
When asked about his passion for the legal profession, Jim reveals, "I love the mental challenge of focusing on different issues daily and working to solve problems. Building trust with my clients, regardless of the matter's scale, has been crucial to my success. I am emotionally invested in my client's successes and failures, and I approach litigation from a comprehensive perspective, including cost considerations. I have the privilege of representing long-standing clients passing on their family-owned businesses to the next generation."
Jim's commitment to serving others extends beyond his legal practice. He willingly offers his expertise to anyone seeking guidance on legal matters, even if they fall outside his direct expertise. With an extensive network of legal professionals, Jim can connect clients with the right lawyers to address their specific needs. Notably, he recently collaborated with another attorney on a wrongful death case, resulting in the largest wrongful death jury verdict in Georgia that year. Presently, Jim is diligently working to collect that verdict.
Recognizing the value of alternative dispute resolution methods, particularly in light of court backlogs, Jim became a registered mediator and arbitrator in 2021. His vast experience and successful participation in numerous mediations enable him to bring a wealth of knowledge to this role.
Jim's journey from a small town in Katonah, New York, to Georgia over thirty years ago has shaped his perspective and sense of community. A graduate of Emory University and the University of Georgia Law School, Jim has not only excelled in his legal career but also actively contributed to his community. In 2020, he was elected to the Braselton Town Council, where he currently serves as Council Member for District 3 and Mayor Pro Tem. Jim is excited about the town's trajectory and takes pride in the recent establishment of the Braselton Public Art Council. He emphasizes, "Braselton's commitment to public art is something I'm thrilled about. I'm immensely proud of the accomplishments of our Public Art Council, including commissioned pieces for the Braselton Public Library Expansion and the Mulberry River Walk. We have exciting plans for more art installations and events throughout the town. I ran for office because I believe Braselton is an exceptional place to raise a family, and I want it to remain that way for future generations."
Aside from his professional and civic engagements, Jim finds joy in his family life. Married to his beloved wife, Stephanie, for sixteen years, they recently renewed their vows in a memorable ceremony officiated by none other than Elvis in Las Vegas. Together, they attended a John Cougar Mellencamp concert, further nurturing their strong partnership. Jim's dedication to his children is evident as he actively supports their various activities, from his son's karate and basketball endeavors to his daughters' involvement in cheerleading and tumbling. Furthermore, all of Jim's children are preparing for the upcoming summer swim season. As he remarks, "It's rare for my wife and me to be in the same place any night of the week."
Jim's commitment to community service extends beyond the local level. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia, wholeheartedly advocating for its mission and accomplishments. Jim has also held significant positions in various organizations, including his role as President of the Rotary Club of Braselton and Speakers Chair. In 2021, he co-chaired the American Values Dinner for the Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America and currently serves on the Boy Scouts' advisory council. Jim's dedication to charitable causes is further highlighted by his past involvement as a member of the Board of Advisors for the American Cancer Society in Gwinnett County, where he twice co-chaired their Annual Fundraising Gala alongside Stephanie. Additionally, Jim proudly served as a long-time South Gwinnett High School Mock Trial Team coach and continues to contribute as an evaluator in mock trial competitions.
When asked about what sets him apart as a lawyer, Jim emphasizes the value he places on client relationships. His clients often remain loyal for years, a testament to his problem-solving abilities and dedication to preventing issues before they arise. Jim recognizes his limitations and knows when to involve specialized lawyers for cases requiring their expertise. Furthermore, he prides himself on providing a realistic assessment of the litigation process, offering clients clear expectations that he strives to meet or exceed. Jim believes that setting realistic expectations and delivering on them are the foundations of client satisfaction. Despite the demanding nature of his legal practice, he thrives on the ever-changing challenges it presents.
Jim Joedecke's legal prowess, commitment to client success, and extensive community involvement make him a prominent figure in both the legal field and Braselton. With his ability to handle diverse litigation matters and connect clients with the right legal experts, Jim ensures exceptional service to his clients. Simultaneously, his dedication to community service and his devotion to his family illustrate his well-rounded character. Jim's passion for the law, problem-solving mindset, and genuine care for his clients continue to drive his success as a respected attorney and community leader.
