Edwin Osorio Shares His Journey as a Navy Veteran
Edwin Osorio has been a proud resident of Sterling on the Lake for five years. But before he made his home in this community, he spent four transformative years serving in the United States Navy, a journey inspired by his desire to earn a degree while having the military help pay for it.
Edwin’s service took him to numerous places around the globe. Stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, he traveled extensively through the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Europe, and the Middle East, where he gained valuable leadership experience. As an E4, Edwin took on the role of supervisor for one of the Navy's generator engineering spaces—a position typically held by a more senior E5. This responsibility allowed him to hone his skills in leadership and technical expertise, proving his capabilities early on in his career.
During his time in the Navy, Edwin earned several letters of commendation and the prestigious Navy Achievement Medal, acknowledgments of his dedication and professionalism. His favorite memory? A port of call in Greece, a country that left a lasting impression on him.
Military service runs deep in Edwin's family. His father, who served in the Army in El Salvador, instilled in him a sense of duty and honor. His father also worked as a police officer, further shaping Edwin’s understanding of service and sacrifice.
When asked what advice he would give to young people considering enlisting, Edwin emphasizes the importance of reflection and leadership: “Think about what you want to gain from your military service and what you want to do when you leave. Learn to lead by example.”
Edwin’s story is one of inspiration and dedication, reminding us all of the courage and commitment of those who serve our country. We’re proud to have him as part of our Sterling on the Lake community! Thank you for your service!
