The Umoren family gives back!
The Umoren family
Akan and Julia Umoren have been able to give back and make a difference in many lives.
They have been able to help friends from around the world during times of need and distress, including the more recent persecution in Russia and Ukraine. The Umorens were able to host a family from Russia. They stayed in their home until they were able to find employment and housing. It was humbling for their family to see how much they took for granted living here in America.
The Umoren family volunteer as Jehovah's Witnesses and have a mission to help others improve their lives by following Bible principles. Following the model Jesus set, going house to house, they have a signature door-to-door approach to their ministry. However, because of Covid, they now write letters and make phone calls. Julia and her husband have been volunteering for over 20 years.
Julia mentioned that if you want more information about volunteering with this organization, just log on to the website JW.org. There are lots of ways to be involved! They have free interactive Bible courses, cartoons that teach values to children, and even music videos. They recently reopened Kingdom Hall, which is their place of worship. All are invited! The work is done on a purely voluntary donation basis, so there are never any collections, just encouragement from the Bible and a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Why do the Umorens enjoy giving back? Julia stated, "That's simple, we love God and neighbor: the two greatest commandments. We love sharing the good news that helps improve the lives of others. We have been able to help couples and families become closer using Bible principles. It's very rewarding and exciting!"
The Umorens love living in our neighborhood. They have been here for one year. Their favorite part is the great people! Their family also loves the playgrounds, the wonderful community events, the green space, and the movie theater. They have a household of seven, including two children: an 11-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy. They also have three elderly family members living with them right now: Grandma, Pawpaw, and Aunty. Everyone participates in the work, making phone calls and writing letters. Even little Ethan draws sweet pictures for others in the congregation. Giving a smile or sharing something positive makes their day. Julia said that there are lots of odd rumors about Jehovah's Witnesses that she has heard over the years. She said it is nice for others to have the opportunity to talk directly to them if they have any questions. They love to share about their faith!
