Honoring Our Veterans: The Romeo Group's Flag Placement Tradition

For the third consecutive year, the Romeo Group, a local gathering of retired men, proudly came together to honor our veterans by placing flags throughout the Sterling neighborhood. On this special day, about 40 members participated in the labor of love, setting up 700 flags at intersections and entrances of each section of Sterling. The community event not only displayed our patriotic spirit but also brought neighbors together in remembrance and respect.

With the help of the Flowery Branch Police, who provided traffic control as the flags were carefully placed, the event was smooth and safe. Once the flags were in place, the group gathered at the clubhouse flagpole for a heartfelt remembrance ceremony. The ceremony included the Pledge of Allegiance and a group photo to commemorate the occasion.

After the ceremony, the neighborhood HOA graciously provided a delicious breakfast for our veterans, fostering camaraderie and fellowship among participants. It was a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of our veterans and show appreciation for their service.

If you’re interested in joining the R.O.M.E.O.s (commonly known as Retired Old Men Eating Out Group or Retired Old Men Enjoying Others), the door is always open. The group meets at Papa Jack's at 9 a.m. on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th (if applicable) Friday of each month. At each meeting, members receive updates from local leaders, including Ed Asbridge, Mayor of Flowery Branch; members of the City Council; the Community Outreach Officer from the Flowery Branch Police Department; along with representatives from the HOA and empty nester group.

Come join us to stay informed, connect with neighbors, and honor those who served. The Romeo Group welcomes all men who are looking to be a part of a meaningful tradition of service and friendship.
