SOTL Ladies Quilt Group: Giving Back to the Community, One Stitch at a Time

The SOTL Ladies Quilt Group is a dedicated and compassionate group of women who share their love of quilting with the community in meaningful ways. Their volunteer efforts focus on giving back to those in need, especially children, veterans, and individuals facing health challenges. From quilts to small handmade items, this group is a shining example of how crafting can make a positive impact in the lives of others.

What Do They Do?
The group’s main mission is to provide comfort and warmth to individuals in difficult circumstances. They create quilts for children battling cancer at local hospitals, ensuring these young fighters have something to keep them cozy and comforted during their treatment. They also make quilts for all the children involved in the Eagle Ranch program, which provides a safe and supportive environment for children in need.

Additionally, the SOTL Ladies Quilt Group produces Quilts of Valor for veterans, honoring their service and providing them with a token of appreciation and warmth. Many of the women also contribute handmade small items that are sold at the annual church bazaar. The proceeds from these sales go to support various charities within their church family, furthering their mission of giving back.

How Much Time Do They Dedicate?
While the group meets together at the Sterling lodge on the first Thursday of each month for three hours, their dedication doesn’t stop there. Many of the women work on their own quilting projects throughout the month, and several are active members of the Hall County Quilt Guild. Through the Guild, they contribute to additional charitable efforts, such as creating seat belt bags for breast cancer patients and walker caddies for nursing home residents.

How Can Others Get Involved?
Anyone who enjoys sewing or quilting is welcome to join the SOTL Ladies Quilt Group, especially if they live in the SOTL community. For those in other neighborhoods who are passionate about quilting and community service, the Hall County Quilt Guild offers another great avenue for involvement. The more hands, the more quilts—and the more hearts touched by the group’s generosity.

The Joy of Giving Back
For the women in the SOTL Ladies Quilt Group, volunteering isn’t just about making quilts—it’s about sharing their talents and making a real difference in the lives of others. Each quilt sewn, each small item made, is a labor of love that brings joy to those who receive it.

Their annual picnic with Eagle Ranch is a highlight, allowing the group to showcase all the quilts they’ve donated and see firsthand the impact their work has on the children and families at the ranch. The staff at Eagle Ranch is always thrilled to receive the quilts, and the event serves as a heartwarming reminder of the difference the group makes in the lives of others.

For these quilters, the act of creating is not only about crafting beautiful pieces but also about spreading kindness, warmth, and comfort to those who need it most. The joy that comes from knowing their efforts are appreciated is something that keeps them coming back to the sewing machine, stitching their way toward a better world, one quilt at a time.

Whether through their church bazaar or their quilting projects, the SOTL Ladies Quilt Group proves that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big impact—and that the thread that binds their quilts is the same thread that binds their community together.
