Air Force Veteran makes a difference in Uganda

Aimee Marx, an Air Force veteran, embarked on a life-changing mission trip to Adjumani, Uganda, alongside fellow Sterling on the Lake resident, Sherry Kell. This journey was marked by a profound commitment to service, compassion, and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of the people in this remote village. The trip was run by Sydney and Collins Mugume, the founders of Mtoto W’Afrika, a nonprofit organization committed to serving the people of Uganda.

Their trip was a whirlwind of activities aimed at addressing various aspects of the community's needs. Mtoto W’Afrika played a pivotal role in running a medical clinic and providing much-needed healthcare to the local residents. This act of kindness undoubtedly alleviated the suffering of many. Aimee’s nursing background and military training came in handy as she headed up the triage room.

In addition to medical care, they organized a local Vacation Bible School (VBS), where they imparted valuable lessons and shared their faith with the eager young minds of the village. They were also able to give out over 300 donated dresses as well as provide a meal to meet their most current physical needs. Their dedication didn't stop there; they also visited a local prison, offering hope and ministering to those incarcerated.

Aimee and Sherry didn't just focus on the spiritual and physical needs of the community; they also recognized the importance of economic empowerment. They met with a small group of women business partners, sharing insights and support to help these women thrive.

Furthermore, they embarked on home visits to special needs families, providing comfort, assistance, and a sense of belonging to those who needed it most. Aimee and the team also took the initiative to educate young girls on female hygiene, distributing free reusable sanitary kits to ensure these girls could attend school without hindrance.

Their dedication to the people of Adjumani is not a recent endeavor. Aimee and her husband have been close family friends with Collins and Sydney Mugume for almost a decade. Over the years, they have shown unwavering support for their friends' ministry, culminating in Aimee joining two mission trips, including this year's visit.

Returning to the same village for the second consecutive year was a heartwarming experience for Aimee. Seeing familiar faces and witnessing the positive impact of their work, such as the operational well and thriving community center, filled her with a deep sense of fulfillment. The growth of the ministry from one year to the next, including expanding medical care and organizing a VBS, demonstrates the tangible difference they are making in the lives of the people of Adjumani.

Collins and Sydney’s hope is that they can continue their invaluable work on a full-time basis in Adjumani, supporting this community in need and nurturing both their physical and spiritual well-being. With plans in motion for the Mugumes to be on the ground full-time by 2024, the future looks bright for the people of Adjumani, thanks to the dedication and love of individuals like Aimee Marx and her mission companions.
