Owasso High School Senior Cheerleader Anna Flanary
Owasso High School senior Anna Flanary, 18, has spent most of her life dedicated to cheerleading. After 15 years in the sport, she has developed the skill, strength, and leadership that make her a standout as an Owasso High School cheerleader. Her years of training and competition have led to multiple championships and a reputation as a dependable teammate and competitor.
Anna serves as a base on her team, a position that requires both physical power and coordination. Bases are responsible for lifting, stabilizing, and supporting flyers during stunts, making the role one of the most demanding and critical in cheer. Her commitment to training and teamwork has played a key part in the success of her teams over the years.
Her cheer career began at a young age, and over the past decade and a half, she has accumulated numerous titles and honors. Among her accomplishments are four 6A performance state championships, two gameday state championships, and two stunt state championships. On the national and international stage, she has also earned two world championships, one NCA championship, and one Small All-Girl UCA National championship. Each title reflects years of practice, long competition days, and an unwavering commitment to improvement.
Practices are held at the Owasso Spirit Gym, where Anna and her teammates train until every routine meets the team’s standards. Practices often extend until the work is done, emphasizing precision, endurance, and trust among teammates. Through the repetition and discipline of these sessions, Anna has learned skills that extend far beyond cheerleading.
Anna’s favorite part of cheerleading is being part of a team that works toward a common goal. The shared commitment among teammates, especially during high-pressure competitions, creates strong bonds that carry beyond the mat. For her, those moments of unity and shared success are what make the sport rewarding.
A highlight for her came in February, when she and her team won their first Small All-Girl UCA National Championship. The experience marked a milestone achievement, representing the culmination of years of dedication and teamwork. It remains one of her proudest moments as both an athlete and a leader.
After graduating from Owasso High School, Anna plans to attend the University of Oklahoma, where she hopes to continue building on the foundation she has created through cheer. When asked what advice she would give to others interested in cheerleading, Anna encourages them to work hard and stay true to themselves. She believes that the challenges of the sport are worth the effort and that dedication will always lead to growth.
