DuPage Swimming Center: A Legacy That Goes Beyond the Water
Three generations of experience help DuPage Swimming Center build confident, capable swimmers.
For the Seymour family, swimming has never been just a sport or a business,it has been a lifelong calling rooted in family, service, and helping others thrive. Their journey began in Melbourne, Australia, where Kenneth Seymour opened the city's first indoor learn-to-swim center in 1960, believing every child deserved the confidence and life-saving skills that come from learning to swim.
His son, Ross Seymour, carried that vision to the world stage as an Australian Olympian before bringing the family's philosophy to the United States. Drawing on his experience as an elite athlete and coach, Ross founded Swimming Pool Management Systems (SPMS) in 1983, providing professional pool maintenance, renovations, and aquatic facility services throughout Chicagoland. As the company's reputation grew, he expanded that vision with Pool Guards, Inc., a full-service lifeguard staffing and pool management company dedicated to creating safe, professionally operated aquatic environments.
In 2003, Ross completed the family's aquatic vision by opening DuPage Swimming Center, creating a place where swimmers of every age and ability could develop not only technical skills, but also confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love of the water. Today, that tradition continues under the leadership of his daughter, Lauren Seymour, representing three generations dedicated to enriching lives through aquatics.
The Seymour philosophy is built on progressive learning—guiding each swimmer from essential water safety and survival skills to proper stroke technique and competitive excellence when desired. Long before structured swim curriculums became common, Ross helped pioneer a teaching approach that meets every swimmer where they are, whether introducing a three-month-old infant to the water, helping a child overcome fear, teaching an adult to swim for the first time, or coaching competitive athletes to reach their full potential.
As an independent, family-owned organization, every program reflects decades of international competitive experience, proven teaching methods, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of every family they serve. Their mission extends far beyond swimming. It is about building confidence, creating opportunities, strengthening families, and equipping every student with life-saving skills that last a lifetime.
Today, DuPage Swimming Center, SPMS, and Pool Guards work together to support every aspect of the aquatic community—from teaching babies their first water skills and coaching competitive swimmers, to maintaining pools, staffing lifeguards, and managing aquatic facilities. Together, the Seymour family's businesses provide a complete continuum of aquatic services for families, schools, park districts, homeowner associations, and communities throughout Naperville, DuPage County, and the greater Chicagoland area.
More than 60 years after Kenneth Seymour opened the family's first swim school, the Seymour legacy continues to be defined by excellence, integrity, and service. Three generations later, the family's purpose remains unchanged: to help people of every age discover confidence in the water while building stronger, safer communities.
"We're honored to serve the Stonebridge community because we believe strong families build strong communities, and every child deserves the confidence and safety that comes from learning to swim."
