From the Marine Corps to the End Zone: Meet Everett Keene
Everett Keene and his wife, Nancy, moved to Britton Falls in February 2017. Everett retired on January 1, 2015, after a 23-year career (1992–2015) with Sports Authority and Sportsmart (similar to Dick’s Sporting Goods). His career spanned multiple mergers and acquisitions, including Gart Brothers, Oshman’s, and Sportmart.
Everett began his career in Mundelein, Illinois, as a store manager for Sportsmart before moving into logistics, where he oversaw several distribution centers. His work took him to Chicago and Minneapolis, before he ultimately relocated to Aurora, Colorado (Denver area), where he retired.
Originally from Rhode Island, and with Nancy hailing from Massachusetts, the couple decided to move closer to their son, who was working for Amazon in Camby, Indiana, which led them to discover Britton Falls. Their son has since been transferred to Chicago.
Everett graduated from the University of Rhode Island and earned his master’s degree from Idaho State University. He proudly served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, serving active duty from 1969–1973 and in the Reserves through 1987, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before relocating to Spain due to a job transfer.
In the summer of 2017, Everett contacted Will Weaver and began playing Fantasy Football. He has since won the CFL Championship and was named Community Champion in 2020. He also participates in the College Bowl Challengeand the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Additionally, Everett played Bocce from 2017 to 2022.
A lifelong New York Giants fan, Everett has enjoyed all four of their Super Bowl victories (1986, 1990, 2007, and 2011). He even had a friend who coached for both the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. On the basketball side, Everett cheered for the Chicago Bulls during the Michael Jordan era, celebrating their championship runs in 1991–1993 and 1996–1998.
