Gentry Dentistry of Suwanee
Generations of smiles in our community
Ever since opening its doors in 1987, Gentry Dentistry of Suwanee has been dedicated to creating something special for the community. Founder Dr. Harry Gentry, who earned his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee, chose Suwanee as the place to build both a practice and a life. In fact, when he first opened his office, the growing city had only recently installed its very first traffic light.
Nearly four decades later, the practice has grown right alongside the community it serves.
Dr. Gentry built his office around a simple philosophy: combine high-quality dental care with a welcoming environment where patients feel comfortable and genuinely cared for. Many members of the team have been part of the practice for decades, creating a relaxed atmosphere where familiar faces and friendly conversation help turn what was once a dreaded trip to the dentist into something much more pleasant.
That approach has created something truly special. Today, some families who visit the office include three and even four generations of patients.
Originally from Old Hickory, Tennessee, Dr. Gentry knew he wanted to be a dentist as early as the eighth grade. A school project about future careers revealed what felt like the perfect combination of his interests: working with his hands while helping people. Even after more than 30 years in practice, the relationships he has built with patients and staff remain the most rewarding part of his career.
Family has always been central to both his life and his practice. He and his wife, Kathy, have been married for more than 40 years and raised two children, Darby and Jared. Today, Jared works locally as a closing attorney with Weissman, while Darby has joined her father in the dental practice.
Dr. Darby Gentry Tompkins followed in her father’s footsteps, earning her DDS from the University of Tennessee. Growing up in Suwanee, she feels especially grateful to now serve the community that raised her. She and her husband, Johnny, who will celebrate five years of marriage this June, are raising their two young daughters, Maddux Jones and baby Gentry Mae, along with their energetic Boykin spaniel, Bogey Sue.
Together, Drs. Harry and Darby lead a team of eight who provide a wide range of services under one roof, from preventative care and cleanings to cosmetic dentistry, implants, crowns, dentures, oral surgery, and more.
One of the most meaningful relationships the practice has built is with Annandale Village. In fact, Annandale villagers have been patients of the practice since the office first opened, and many have become some of the team’s favorite patients. Caring for individuals with special needs often requires extra patience and creativity. The hygienists frequently go above and beyond, sometimes working together during appointments and taking extra time to ensure each patient feels comfortable. Treatment plans are carefully tailored to meet each person’s needs.
The practice also supports Annandale Village through its teeth-whitening promotion, donating proceeds to further the organization’s mission.
After nearly 40 years, the goal at Gentry Dentistry remains simple: treat every patient like family while helping the community smile for generations to come.
