Finding Community Through Golf at The Back Nine
Back Nine Suwanee is open for business! We're excited to welcome them to our Stroll Family and to the Suwanee Community.
For Bobby and Jennifer Pearson, opening The Back Nine in Suwanee (https://thebackninegolf.com/local/suwanee-ga/) was never just about golf. It was about creating a place where people could connect, unwind, improve their game, and feel part of a community.
The couple’s journey to business ownership has been shaped by decades of hard work, family, and a willingness to embrace new chapters. Bobby grew up in Auburn, Alabama, where his father first introduced him to golf between soccer practices and games. After playing collegiate soccer at Huntingdon College, he transferred to Auburn University, earning a degree in Zoology while working for Walmart. What began as a job eventually became a 30-year career in big box retail management and, unexpectedly, the place where he met Jennifer.
Jennifer grew up in Eastaboga, Alabama, and graduated from Jacksonville State University with a degree in Psychology. Her career focused on youth services, including work as a detention officer and later as Assistant Director of a youth group home helping rehabilitate at-risk youth and reunite families. In 2000, she stepped away from her career to focus on raising their daughter, Kayla.
Today, the Pearsons are proud parents of 26-year-old Kayla, who lives in Oregon with her beloved cat Fig, and her two dogs, Maple, and Willow. Family remains at the center of their lives, especially as Jennifer helps care for Bobby’s father, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s three years ago and now resides at Towne Club Windermere.
After 11 moves throughout their careers, the Pearsons eventually settled in Cumming and found themselves entering a new season as empty nesters. While searching for a business opportunity that fit their lifestyle and passions, they kept coming back to one thing they always enjoyed together: golf.
“We really enjoyed the time we spent golfing together while living in Myrtle Beach,” Bobby shared. “As life got busier, we didn’t get out on the course as often, but the love for the game never went away.”
That search led them to The Back Nine, a rapidly growing indoor golf franchise founded by golf enthusiast Wil Bangerter. What began as a small two-simulator location in Utah has expanded internationally, with more than 500 signed locations across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
After researching the company’s business model, values, and leadership team, the Pearsons knew they had found the right fit. They purchased the Suwanee territory and are now preparing to officially celebrate their Grand Opening on June 13.
Located on Peachtree Parkway, The Back Nine offers a modern, member-focused indoor golf experience powered by state-of-the-art Full Swing simulator technology. The club features two semi-private simulator bays and one private bay, allowing golfers to practice, compete, or simply have fun year-round.
Members can sharpen their skills through short-game practice, target ranges, or traditional driving-range options. Golfers can also play virtual rounds on more than 65 famous courses or enjoy interactive games such as closest-to-the-pin contests, long-drive competitions, darts, tic-tac-toe, and more.
The Pearsons are especially excited about building a welcoming golf community for players of all skill levels. They currently offer free 30-minute demos, public hourly tee times, and tiered membership options designed to fit a variety of schedules and needs. They also hope to add coaches and clinics in the future to help grow the game locally.
Community involvement is already a major focus. The Back Nine proudly supports the Lambert High School boys golf team, the North Gwinnett High School Band Program, and several local charity tournaments, including the Richard Trice Charity Tournament and Bear’s Best Veterans Golf Classic right here in Edinburgh.
As membership grows, the Pearsons plan to cap memberships at 130 to ensure members always have access to tee times and an enjoyable experience.
Early guest feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
“This place is awesome. The owners are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met and are extremely accommodating,” shared Ashton B.
Nick G. added, “Best indoor golf experience in Atlanta. Exactly what I was looking for and love that it’s literally open 24/7.”
For Bobby and Jennifer, The Back Nine is more than a business. It is the beginning of a new chapter built around family, friendship, and a shared love for the game.
