When you walk into Jim Ellis Buick GMC Mall of Georgia, you may be greeted by a familiar face. As General Manager, Jason Dowdy has spent more than 16 years helping lead the dealership, but what stands out most about Jason is not simply his extensive experience in the automotive industry. It is his genuine appreciation for people.

With more than 27 years in the automotive business, Jason has built his career around relationships, leadership, and service. His professional journey has included extensive GM training and product knowledge, but his approach to leadership was shaped long before he entered the showroom. Jason served seven years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, an experience that instilled the discipline, accountability and commitment he carries with him today.

Jason's work is part of a much larger Atlanta automotive story. In 1971, Jim Ellis and his wife, Billie, took a tremendous leap of faith and opened their first dealership, Jim Ellis Volkswagen, after investing their savings and borrowing the remaining funds needed to get started. What began as one family-owned dealership has grown into the Jim Ellis Automotive Group, now spanning 22 dealerships and 21 automotive brands across metro Atlanta and employing more than 1,700 people. Through that growth, the Ellis family has maintained a simple philosophy: treat customers like family.

That philosophy fits naturally with Jason's own approach to leadership. For him, one of the most rewarding parts of his job is helping people. Whether that means helping a family find the right vehicle, supporting his team, or getting involved in the community, he believes relationships are at the heart of what makes a business successful.

That commitment to service was especially meaningful in 2025, when Jim Ellis Buick GMC Mall of Georgia sponsored the Bear's Best Veterans Charity Golf Tournament. Jason personally participated in the event, joining others in the community to support a cause that honors and gives back to veterans. His own Marine Corps service made the opportunity to participate especially fitting.

The dealership's commitment to the community extends beyond the golf course. Jim Ellis Buick GMC Mall of Georgia reflects the broader Jim Ellis philosophy of welcoming customers, listening to their needs and treating them with respect. The dealership has become a familiar part of the Buford community, providing Buick and GMC vehicles along with sales, service and parts support.

When he is not at the dealership, Jason enjoys spending time outdoors, following sports and playing the drums. Those personal interests offer a glimpse into the man behind the title and the busy schedule of a General Manager.
