Kakayadi Family Adventures to South America
The Kakayadi family embarked on an unforgettable adventure to South America, taking a three-week vacation in June that truly celebrated a milestone. Raja Kakayadi, his wife Anandhi, and their daughter Ananya set off to explore the vibrant cultures and stunning landscapes of Brazil, Argentina, and Chile.
The journey began in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the family spent five lively days taking in the sights. They marveled at Christ the Redeemer, explored Tijuca National Park, and enjoyed a sunset at Arpoador Rock. Raja noted that the lunch buffet options were a pleasant surprise for the vegetarian couple, reminding him of familiar flavors from home in India. The freshly squeezed juices and Acai bowls were a hit with Anandhi and Ananya, and as vegetarians they felt they had plenty of options.
Next on the itinerary was Iguazu Falls, a natural wonder that spans Brazil and Argentina. Over three days, the family hiked the trails in Iguazu National Park on the Argentina side and admired the powerful cascades from both countries’ perspectives. Raja shared that the amazing scenery at Iguazu Falls left a lasting impression.
The adventure continued in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the Kakayadi family immersed themselves in the local culture during a four-day stay that included a delightful day trip to Tigre. They enjoyed a guided bicycle tour, explored historical landmarks such as the Metropolitan Cathedral and La Recoleta Cemetery, and even experienced a mesmerizing tango show. The guided boat tour in Tigre and visit to Teatro Colon further enriched their encounter with the city’s charm.
Their final stop was Santiago, Chile, with a four-day visit that featured a guided walking tour of the city's plazas, historical sites like La Moneda Palace, and an exciting day trip to Valparaiso. Raja remarked that he felt Santiago is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The Kakayadi family recommends prospective travelers learn some Spanish and use Google Translate to navigate the local environment. They advise keeping bags and cell phones safe and remind fellow adventurers to remain flexible with their itinerary, especially when visiting during the winter months. As Raja put it, "Buen viaje!" The family would certainly return to both Iguazu Falls and Santiago, making this South American odyssey one they’ll treasure forever.
