Living the Pond Life

Whether it’s a golf cart ride to brunch or a night at a pub crawl, Richard and Jeanne Nash embrace everything Sugar Mill Pond has to offer.

If you’ve ever spotted a friendly couple riding a golf cart through Sugar Mill Pond—maybe headed to brunch, grabbing a drink, or checking out a community event—there’s a good chance it was Richard and Jeanne Nash.

Originally from Alexandria, Jeanne now calls Sugar Mill Pond home alongside her husband, Richard. Their story together began in a place many of us know well: Albertsons. “We met in Beaumont, Texas,” Jeanne says. “We both worked in management at the same store and became good friends.” That friendship bloomed into something more, and the two spent decades in the grocery business: Jeanne as a liquor manager for 35 years and Richard as a longtime store manager in Broussard.

Now semi-retired and fully enjoying life in the neighborhood, the Nashes have built a beautiful life filled with family, fun, and simple joys. They have two daughters, Alexandra and Laken, one of whom lives nearby in Lafayette and the other in Georgia. They're also currently fostering their daughter’s white cat, Whitaker, who keeps things lively at home.

Life in Sugar Mill Pond fits the couple perfectly. “We moved here four years ago after sitting on the patio at Romacelli and watching all the neighbors pull up on golf carts,” Jeanne recalls. “We rented first, then built. We love that we can hop on a golf cart and get dinner, breakfast, ice cream, or even just grab a drink on any patio!”

The neighborhood offers the kind of lifestyle they truly enjoy: community events, pool time, and plenty of social outings. They attend the neighborhood gym, participate in events, and rarely miss a pub crawl, which Jeanne says are their favorites.

Jeanne’s hobbies include reading, working puzzles, and diamond art. Richard joins her in relaxing at home watching TV, especially reality shows like Below Deck and The Amazing Race, and they’re big fans of classic 80s movies. Jeanne’s also proud to admit her love for Mexican food, which she says she could eat “seven days a week,” though their go-to brunch spots include Mandez, Bon Temps, Ruffino’s, and Parish Biscuit.

One of their favorite family traditions? “Friday nights are always breakfast and mimosas,” Jeanne says. Whether it’s a cozy night on the couch or exploring local spots, the Nashes know how to enjoy life together.

They’re LSU fans through and through, and their favorite vacation spots, like Key West, the Texas Hill Country, and Gatlinburg, mirror their easygoing and fun-loving spirit.

When asked what makes their family special, Jeanne says it best: “We can chill on the couch and binge TV, or spend the evening visiting local restaurants and bars.” Either way, for the Nashes, it’s all about enjoying life together.
