NuNu’s Fresh Market: More Than Just a Grocery Store
A place where a deep love for the community fuels personalized customer service and the offering of high-quality products inspired by the rich traditions of Acadiana.
Meet the Broussard Family
I’m Blaine Broussard, and my wife Tyree and I, along with our son Brayden, are proud to bring both tradition and passion to everything we do. I grew up in Milton, just a stone’s throw from the original store location, and Tyree is from the Abbeville/Henry area. As a family, we love traveling, cooking, going to concerts, and spending time with our four dogs—they’re a big part of our lives.
Our son Brayden has grown into quite the foodie. He loves exploring ingredients from around the world and bringing that creativity into his cooking. It’s been amazing to watch his passion for food develop, and we’re excited to see how he carries that forward into the family business.
The Inspiration Behind NuNu’s Fresh Market
For me, NuNu’s Fresh Market is more than a business—it’s a part of my family’s history. It all started with my grandfather, who owned a dance hall. He began selling extra loaves of bread to the card players, so they wouldn’t have to leave their games to go to town. That simple idea planted the seeds for what would eventually become Broussard’s Grocery.
In the late 1960s, my dad—who everyone lovingly called NuNu—took over the business and turned it into a family legacy. My siblings—Arleen, Tamra, Daren—and I grew up immersed in the grocery world. Those early years inspired us to work together as adults to expand the business, which led to the opening of the Youngsville location. Today, I’m proud to say that our family tradition continues, with generations of the Broussard and Choate families managing our four locations in Milton, Youngsville, Maurice, and Scott. It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come while staying true to our roots.
Our family is both excited and anxiously awaiting the opening of our newest and largest location to date in Maurice!
What Makes NuNu’s Fresh Market Unique
When I think about NuNu’s, it’s more than just a grocery store—it’s a reflection of our family’s traditions and our connection to the community. Sure, we’re a meat market, and we take pride in offering everything you need to be a home chef. But for me, the most important part is making sure every person who walks through our doors feels at home.
This business was built on family values, and I love sharing that with our customers and team members. They’re not just people we serve—they’re our friends, our neighbors, and an extension of our family. That’s what makes NuNu’s special and what keeps me passionate about what we do every day.
Advice for Residents
For our family, investing in the community is one of the most important things we can do. When you choose to spend your money with local businesses, you’re keeping that money close to home, building a network of neighbors helping neighbors. It’s amazing how this simple decision ends up funding programs that shape our kids—sports, band, dance, and more.
At NuNu’s, we take that responsibility seriously. It’s not just about running a business; it’s about giving back. We love being able to give young people their first jobs and partnering with local schools. Instead of putting a lot of money into advertising, we redirect those dollars to community organizations, fundraisers, and schools. It’s a blessing to be in a position to support our neighbors in so many meaningful ways.
Clearing Up Misconceptions
NuNu’s Fresh Market is far from your average grocery store. We’re proud to offer an expansive specialty meats section, a curated selection of wines, bourbons, and liquors, and a deli that’s anything but ordinary. Have you explored our large variety of frozen quarts filled with fully cooked Cajun staples like gumbo and rice dressing? These make it easy to enjoy authentic Cajun flavors at home.
Our deli and bakery are local favorites, featuring items like our homemade chicken salad and double doozies. And, of course, our boudin has become something of a calling card for NuNu’s. Our liquor managers, with their refined palates, are always on the floor to provide personalized recommendations. From the specialty meat market to our eager and knowledgeable team members, we’re here to help you find exactly what you need to make your cooking dreams come true. Plus, for added convenience, we offer curbside pickup through our website. At NuNu’s, we’re all about making your shopping experience exceptional.
What We Love About Living Here & Being Part of the Community
We’re lucky to call Montego Bay in Sugar Mill Pond home, and we feel just as fortunate to be deeply connected to the Youngsville community through NuNu’s Fresh Market. Living here allows us to enjoy the best of both worlds—whether it’s riding our golf cart around to grab a meal, waving to neighbors, or attending local events. Tyree enjoys walking around the neighborhood, and appreciating the beautiful landscaping, while I, the social butterfly, am always ready to strike up a conversation. Just like at our store, it’s the small, personal connections that make our community so special.
