A Mediterranean Dream

Mike and Adele Quibodeaux share highlights from their unforgettable cruise through Europe’s most historic coastal cities.

Where did you travel?
We traveled on a Mediterranean cruise aboard the Norwegian Breakaway. Our ports of call included Barcelona, Cannes, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Messina, Valletta, and Palma de Mallorca.

What inspired you to go there?
We have always wanted to visit Italy. After attending a meeting at Two Travel Gurus and learning about different upcoming trips, the Mediterranean cruise quickly became our first choice. Since we already enjoy cruising, it felt like the perfect way to experience multiple destinations at once. As we all know, life can change in an instant, so when the opportunity presented itself, we decided there was no reason to wait.

What did you do while you were there?
We had planned excursions at each port and made the most of every stop. We visited several basilicas, each massive and beautiful in its own way, walked through lovely towns, enjoyed delicious Italian food, and explored unique local shops. Adele especially loved the limoncello in Sorrento, Italy. In Rome, we were also blessed with the opportunity to walk through three Holy Doors, an experience that is only available once every 25 years.

What did you enjoy most, and why?
We truly enjoyed everything about the trip. The history, the architecture, and seeing so many gorgeous buildings made each day unforgettable. One of the highlights of our journey was visiting the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. This magnificent basilica has been under construction since 1882 and is scheduled to be completed in 2026. Seeing it in person was an incredible experience and something we will never forget.

What recommendations would you give your neighbors if they travel there?
One of the things we loved most was returning to the cruise ship each night. It allowed us to avoid the hassle of packing and unpacking and gave us time to relax after busy days of sightseeing. In the evenings, we met with others in our travel group and shared stories about what we experienced that day, which made the trip even more enjoyable.

Is there anything else you would like to share?
This is a trip we will never forget, and we feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to experience it.
