Ascension Welcomes New School and Church Leaders
Fr. Matt Ainsley
Ascension Episcopal School and the Episcopal Church of the Ascension are embarking on an exciting new chapter with the appointment of two key leaders whose roles reflect the close partnership between the school and the church parish.
Ascension Episcopal School has officially named Sarah Davenport as its new Head of School, following her successful tenure as Interim Head. A familiar and trusted presence on campus, Davenport previously served as Head of Upper School and has been part of the Ascension community for several years. Her leadership during a season of transition brought stability, energy, and renewed focus to the school’s mission of educational excellence in a Christian environment.
Parents, faculty, and board members alike have praised Davenport for her professionalism, enthusiasm, and deep commitment to students across all grade levels. As one board leader noted, her appointment reflects both thoughtful discernment and strong confidence in Ascension’s future under her leadership.
At the same time, the Episcopal Church of the Ascension has welcomed the Rev. Father Matthew Ainsley as its new Rector, following an extensive national search. Father Ainsley most recently served as Vicar of All Souls Episcopal Church in Horizon West, Florida, and holds advanced theological training from both Southern Baptist and Anglican seminaries.
Father Ainsley, his wife Kasey, and their two daughters were warmly welcomed to Acadiana by the church parish and school communities. Known for his engaging approach to ministry, Father Ainsley brings together a love for church growth, tradition, and youth ministry. He has expressed gratitude for the warm reception and excitement for what lies ahead at Ascension.
Together, Davenport and Father Ainsley represent a shared vision for faith and community, strengthening the longstanding bond between Ascension Episcopal School and the Episcopal Church of the Ascension and setting a hopeful course for the years to come.
