October Is Calling

A quick hop across the Breach Inlet Bridge brings live music, oysters, pickleball, smashburgers and plenty of reasons to spend a little more time with our neighbors on Isle of Palms this month.

One of the perks of island life? Another island is right next door. October is an especially good month to head Across the Inlet, when the summer crowds thin, the weather turns glorious and IOP’s restaurants, businesses and community events give us plenty of reasons to make the very short trip.
Start with a little music. Tuesday evenings in October, Tom Crowley brings live music to The Boathouse rooftop from 4–7 PM. Sunset, a rooftop and a view across the water? Hard to argue with that.
On October 10, the 14th Annual Carolina Children’s Charity Cornhole Tournament takes over the beach volleyball courts at The Windjammer, with two-person teams, prizes and live music following the tournament.
October 15 is worth circling twice. It’s the final Isle of Palms Farmers Market of the season, and Islander 71 is hosting an all-you-can-eat Oyster Roast from 3–6 PM. Come hungry.
On October 18, the 2nd Annual Paddles Up to End Childhood Cancer brings a full day of pickleball to the Wild Dunes Racquet Club. Competition ranges from a Just for Fun Round Robin to 4.0+, followed by an after-party and silent auction, all in support of an important cause.
And you don’t need an event on the calendar to cross the bridge. Heavy’s Barburger is now officially a beach thing, just 194 steps from the sand. Stop in for Heavy’s Hour, Tuesday–Friday from 4–5 PM, a Shorty Margarita and a smashburger. Save room for the Lemon Lime Icebox Pie. This is John and Brenda Haire's 3rd location in Charleston!
October is a good reminder that sometimes the best little getaway is barely a getaway at all. We’ll see you Across the Inlet.
