From Summerfield Drive to Center Stage: Wasted Whiskey Brings the Party Home

A neighborhood voice, a modern country twist, and an award-winning band that knows how to get a crowd moving

On any given night, the energy of a live country show might feel worlds away from a quiet neighborhood street. For Summerfield Drive resident Dominic Vaccaro, that connection is much closer than you might think. As the lead vocalist of Wasted Whiskey, Dominic brings his passion for music from the neighborhood straight to the stage, helping fuel a band that has quickly become known for its fun, high-energy performances and crowd-pleasing sound.
Wasted Whiskey was formed by drummer Gary Sawning after a previous band lineup came to an unexpected end. Wanting to keep the music going, Gary pulled together musicians he believed in, including bassist Garrett Bruno and guitarist and vocalist Don Hinman. The goal was simple: create a band that feels like a party the moment they step on stage.
That spirit is reflected right in the name. “Wasted Whiskey” was chosen to set expectations for a good time and an upbeat atmosphere, perfectly matching the band’s modern country sound with a twist. Their shows blend familiar favorites with creative surprises, keeping audiences engaged from the first song to the last.
One of those surprises has become a fan favorite: a lively, crowd-involved mix of “Sweet Home Alabama” that reliably gets people singing and dancing along. It is that kind of connection, watching people smile, move, and enjoy themselves, that the band says is the most rewarding part of performing, especially for local audiences.
Neighborhood residents may recognize Wasted Whiskey from their recent appearance as the opening act at Rockin’ in Summerfield Neighborhood Night 2025, where they helped set the tone for an unforgettable evening of live music and community celebration.
Dominic’s journey with the band began years earlier through an early online music connection and a shared love of performing. When Gary reached out with an invitation to join the lineup, the timing was right. Dominic has been singing most of his life and was originally drawn to alternative rock, an influence that adds depth and range to his vocals. One of his favorite songs to perform is “3AM” by Matchbox Twenty, a song that reflects those roots and consistently resonates with audiences.
In 2024, Wasted Whiskey’s dedication and chemistry were recognized in a big way when the band earned Best Country Band honors. Gary Sawning was also named Best Country Drummer, highlighting both the individual talent and the strength of the group as a whole.
