Chocolate & Pomegranate Samosas
My name is Bina Shah. My son, Punit, influenced me to make this recipe. He was visiting my husband and I for the holidays. Punit had pomegranate samosas in Dallas, few days before he visited us and recommended to try and make it at home. I agreed and recommended to add chocolate with the pomegranate. We didn't have pastry dough and it was late night so my husband made the dough from scratch and deep fried the samosas. Chocolate & Pomegranate Samosas were a instant hit and it was our late night snack with delicious vanilla ice cream! This easy dish can be enjoyed as an after dinner treat, or a snack anytime.
Dough Ingredients:
1 Puff pastry sheet
¼ cup any milk
Butter - optional
Filling ingredients:
1.5 cup dark chocolate chips
¾ cup pomegranate seeds
Filling Directions:
- Blend chocolate chips and pomegranate in food processor, at low speed, to make a coarse paste
- Store in the refrigerator till you need it
Dessert Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 400F
- Remove puff pastry from the freezer and let it sit out at room temperature, about 40 minutes
- Cut them into 12 equal size squares
- Stretch each square a bit more with a rolling pin
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of the chocolate-pomegranate filling in the center of each square
- With a brush, apply milk on all the sides of the squares
- Fold into a triangle
- Press the edges with a fork to create a design and helps seal the ends
- Put all the samosas on the baking tray
- Optional: Brush the top of the samosas with a little butter. This will give the samosas a nice golden-brown color
- Bake these samosa puffs for 15-20 minutes or till they puff up well and turn golden brown. All ovens are different so it may take a little longer for some ovens
- Take tray out and let it cool for few minutes. Enjoy it with cold ice cream!
