Practice, Perseverance, and Passion: Olivia Hull Shines as Athlete of the Month

For 8-year-old Olivia Hull, sports are more than just activities. They’re a chance to learn, compete, and have fun alongside friends. At such a young age, she’s already balancing an impressive schedule through golf, swimming, and volleyball, each one teaching her something new about dedication and perseverance.
Olivia first picked up a golf club at the age of seven and has enjoyed spending summers at Tanoan Country Club with the Jr. PGA program. She still remembers the thrill of outdriving her friends, boys included, out on the course, that being one of her favorite golf moments so far. “I love it when I hit the ball far,” she shares with a smile.
Swimming has been another constant in Olivia’s life. She joined the Tanoan Country Club Swim Team when she was just five years old and recently wrapped up her fourth summer. She is also now a part of the Albuquerque Triton Aquatic Club. Over the years, she has collected ribbons and race wins, but one highlight that stands out is placing sixth in the 50 Freestyle at the 2025 Sundance Swim Championships and winning her heat. Her favorite part of swimming is, “the feeling of swimming fast,” she says, giving credit to Coach Emma for making the sport both fun and motivating.
Volleyball is her newest adventure, but one where her determination shines just as much. She currently plays for Hope Christian Elementary School and recently earned a spot on the Duke City Volleyball Athletics 10U team, which she’ll officially join in January 2026. Olivia looks up to her mentor, Avery Steele, a standout Hope Christian and “Albuquerque Rebels Volleyball Club Black” player, who has inspired her with her impressive skill along with sportsmanship on and off the court.
Whether she’s walking the fairways, diving into the pool, or practicing serves, Olivia has learned that sports are about more than wins or ribbons. “The more I practice and the harder I work, the stronger and better I become,” she explains. She’s also gained resilience, learning to shake off a missed golf shot, a tough swim race, or a mishit in volleyball.
Looking ahead, Olivia dreams of one day graduating from Hope Christian High School, attending college, and returning to teach at her beloved Hope Christian Elementary School. For now, she’s focused on practicing, competing, and enjoying every moment.
Her advice to others is simple, “Practice a lot and don’t give up. Try a bunch of different sports until you find the ones you truly love to play.”
It’s clear that no matter which sport she’s playing, Olivia brings enthusiasm, hard work, and a genuine love of the game, all qualities that will serve her well both in and out of competition. And without a doubt, she’ll create many more favorite moments along the way.
