The Halbert Family

Barry and Jenny Halbert are both proud to be from Louisiana. Barry grew up in the New Orleans area, and Jenny is from Cut Off, a small Cajun town in South Louisiana. Even though they’ve called Texas home for over 30 years, Louisiana still holds a special place in their hearts. It’s where their story began—full of rich culture, great food, and family traditions that still shape who they are today.
They are incredibly blessed to have three wonderful children who have grown into kind, faithful, and loving adults. Their oldest, Amanda, is married to Josh Hullum. Josh is an Executive Director with Affinius Capital and an exceptional father, always finding time to coach their boys despite a demanding travel schedule. He’s quick-witted, the family’s go-to handyman, and always enjoyable to be around. Amanda is a devoted mother and the family’s planner—always organizing activities for their sons, Timothy (8) and James (6), who are both very athletic and full of energy. Their small patch of grass has been converted into a baseball diamond—and they’re currently planning how to make a mini football field. Amanda volunteers regularly at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Fabra Elementary, and the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center. Amanda and Josh are also proud members of Tapatio Springs, where the family enjoys swimming, playing golf, and relaxing together outdoors.
Rebecca, their second daughter, works in Dallas as a Brand Manager for Highland Homes. Her marketing career has taken her to many places, but she’s always stayed grounded in what matters most. Rebecca has a heart for children and mentors two young girls. She’s known as the life of the party—always ready to gather people together and turn a regular day into a celebration, especially if dancing is involved.
Their youngest son, Luke, is married to Lynden Orr, whom he met back in 7th grade at Boerne Middle School North. Lynden is a professional fashion model for several major brands, and her fun-loving, playful personality makes every family game night one to remember. Luke works as a Sales Manager for Southwest Airlines—which means Jenny and Barry now enjoy the perk of flying for free. He’s deeply loyal, kind-hearted, and brings a calm steadiness to the family. Of all their children, he’s the most serious, and his focus and drive make him a reliable and successful leader in every area of his life. Luke and Lynden also mentor youth at their church in Dallas. Lynden’s parents, Teddy and David Orr, are longtime friends of the Halberts and have lived in The Ridge at Tapatio Springs for the past 18 years, further strengthening the family’s ties to the community.
The Halberts settled in Boerne 20 years ago after Barry’s career with Mars, Inc. brought them to San Antonio. He was calling on H-E-B at the time, and they instantly fell in love with Boerne’s charm. For their first decade in town, they lived in Cordillera Ranch and enjoyed the peaceful Hill Country setting. They later spent ten years living in downtown Boerne, soaking in the walkable charm of Main Street. On February 27, 2025, they moved into their new home in Tapatio Springs, built by Prince Construction. Surrounded by friends, nature, and the quiet they treasure, Barry says with a smile, “I may be biased, but this is the best house we’ve ever had.”
As active members of the Tapatio Springs Club for more than ten years, Barry and Jenny have made many cherished friendships through the community. Jenny plays with the ladies’ golf group, Barry with the men’s group, and they often participate in couples' events that allow them to meet new neighbors and deepen existing relationships. They especially enjoy relaxing by the pool with their grandsons, soaking in the sunshine and family connection.
Family traditions have always been the heart of their home. Thanksgiving begins with Dickens on Main in downtown Boerne, followed by lively football rivalries—LSU, Texas A&M, and now Texas keep things interesting. At Christmas, they exchange thoughtful gifts and attend Mass together. One of Jenny’s most beloved traditions is giving each family member a “knowledge book” carefully chosen based on their season of life. It’s a tradition everyone eagerly awaits each year. Easter is marked by their annual crawfish boil, which has grown to include dear friends from all walks of life.
Another treasured tradition is their annual “H Cup,” a spirited family golf tournament launched in 2014 that includes the coveted Purple Jacket. It’s become a lighthearted yet competitive highlight of the year—and as of 2024, Barry holds the title.
One thing that always brings the Halberts the greatest joy is family vacations—especially when the entire family is together. As their kids and grandkids get older and busier, it’s not always easy to make it happen. But when it does, it’s truly special. Whether they’re playing games like Heads Up, sharing big family meals, or simply enjoying each other’s company, those moments are filled with laughter, love, and memories they’ll never forget. There’s nothing better than having everyone present—it’s what they cherish the most. Their favorite getaway destination has long been Seaside, Florida, but last year they explored Montana for something new and unforgettable.
Both Barry and Jenny are graduates of LSU, where they first met through mutual friends at a bar in Tigertown. Jenny earned a Business degree in Accounting and became a CPA, providing a solid foundation for their family and her professional career. Barry earned a degree in Advertising, which led to a successful career in marketing and sales. He spent seven years with Nestlé before moving to Mars, Inc., where he built a reputation and picked up the nickname “The Candyman.”
Although they are both now retired, their days are far from quiet. Barry serves as a founding board member of Swing Strong, a Tapatio-based fundraising event that raises money for Parkinson’s research through the Michael J. Fox Foundation. In just four years, the event has raised over $400,000. The 2025 fundraiser set a new record, and Barry and the team will proudly present the donation this November. Plans for 2026 are already underway, with a goal of raising more than $165,000. What makes Swing Strong especially meaningful is that every member of the Halbert family participates—volunteering, contributing, and showing up as a team. The cause has brought them even closer together and continues to be a highlight of their year.
Jenny is equally committed to service. She leads a rosary prayer group and, alongside Barry, serves as an Engaged Encounter sponsor at their church, walking with engaged couples and sharing lessons from their 40-year marriage. That marriage will be honored with a special blessing at St. Peter’s Church on July 27, surrounded by the family and faith community that mean so much to them.
Barry’s commitment to community also extends to youth sports. As a past president of the Boerne High School Booster Club, he helped raise funds and provide equipment for all 14 athletic programs when the school reopened—another example of the Halberts’ hands-on, hearts-open approach to service.
Their journey as a family has taken them through many places—New Orleans, Denver, Houston, Charlotte, Dallas, and Boerne. Tapatio Springs is their third home in Boerne and their ninth overall. Each move brought new adventures and lasting friendships. While the road has been long, Barry and Jenny both agree: it led them exactly where they were meant to be.
And while they’ve spent their lives giving back, they never forget to have fun. Whether it’s playing games, watching football, or blasting Jimmy Buffett’s Cheeseburger in Paradise (their unofficial family anthem), there’s always joy and laughter in the Halbert household. Even the grandkids know every word by heart. And when it comes to keeping everyone entertained, Barry is the clear front-runner for “funniest in the family”—though his grandson James is a very close second. Their shared silliness keeps the whole crew smiling.
Between their deep faith, strong family bonds, and unwavering spirit of generosity, the Halberts have built much more than a house—they’ve built a legacy of love, service, and community that will continue to bless others for generations to come.
