Dublin Ski and Board Club: Building a Community on the Slopes

The Dublin Ski and Board Club offers middle and high school students a unique opportunity to bond, learn, and have fun during the winter months. Open to students in grades 6 through 12 across Dublin’s five middle schools and three high schools, the club has become a cornerstone of winter activities for hundreds of kids in the community.

The club’s season begins with an online parent meeting in late September, followed by registration, which opens from November 1 through November 30. Each Tuesday for six consecutive weeks, members travel by Cardinal charter buses from their respective schools to Snow Trails in Mansfield, Ohio. This setup allows students from various schools to connect, fostering a sense of camaraderie and community.

The club’s advisors emphasize the personal growth of participating in the program. Ski Club encourages responsibility and independence as students navigate the resort and manage their time on the slopes. With nearly 600 participants annually, the club also provides a rare opportunity for students to interact with peers they might not otherwise meet, making it a truly city-wide experience.

Another highlight for high schoolers is the optional annual trip to Holiday Valley in New York. Held the weekend after Martin Luther King Day, this trip is considered a rite of passage. Many students attend year after year, creating a tight-knit community of seasoned skiers and snowboarders who share cherished memories of their time on the slopes.

While the cost of skiing can be a barrier, the club’s enduring popularity speaks to its value. Students who join in sixth grade often stay involved through their senior year, forming lasting connections and contributing to the vibrant Ski and Board Club community that Dublin families have come to love.
