Meet the Hootmans

Juggling Kids, Chasing Lottie, and Loving Every Moment in Tartan Fields

The family that ski together stays together.

Introducing the Hootman family! Katie and Andrew Hootman have called Tartan Fields home since the fall of 2020, when they moved into their new house with two young kids and another on the way. Since then, they have found a true home among caring neighbors and believe they live in “one of the greatest neighborhoods around.”

Katie was born a Buckeye in northeast Ohio, while Andrew is originally from Pennsylvania. Immediately after graduating from Ohio University, Katie moved to Columbus, where Andrew attended Ohio State. The Hootmans relocated to northern Virginia for a short stint, but they returned to Ohio and have been in Dublin ever since.

The three Hootman kids are busy and talented, each involved in various sports. Brooks, the oldest, is a seven-year-old second-grader at Eli Pinney. He is a well-rounded athlete, tearing up the soccer, lacrosse, and flag football field. He also takes to the ice as a hockey player and makes a splash on the dive team.

Maeve, who recently turned six, is a Pinney kindergartener. Like her older brother, she is on the dive team. However, she also shows her skill and flexibility as a gymnast and cheerleader.

When the family moved to Tartan Fields, the youngest, Jace, was only weeks away from being born! He is now four years old and attends pre-K at Indian Run Preschool. Like his older siblings, he participates in gymnastics, soccer, and the dive team.

“We are their biggest fans,” Katie says of the kids. She and Andrew relish watching their children participate in their many activities and grow into their own. They rarely miss attending one of the kids’ athletic engagements as a family and feel lucky to have Tartan neighbors, many of whom also have children on the same teams, cheering together from the sidelines.

Completing the Hootman household is a one-year-old white Golden Retriever named Lottie. This incredibly sweet, spunky gal knows no strangers and is always happiest beside her family. She adores the kids and never lets them out of her sight. “The endless joy and giggles she brings to our home are truly a gift, and she is the constant that always brings us together,” Katie shares of their beloved Lottie.

When they have some downtime, the Hootmans prioritize making cherished family memories. “We do most everything together that we can,” Katie says, adding that they are taking advantage of this sweet spot when the kids get along (mostly) and want to spend time as a family.

Although eating at restaurants is not a frequent family pastime, the Hootmans like supporting small local businesses such as Dell’s Ice Cream or Benny’s Pizza. One of their favorite family activities is skiing, and they hit the ski hills every weekend when there is snow. Jace is doing great as he tackles his first season on the slopes, always game to keep up with his siblings.

Tartan Fields has been a haven for the Hootman family, offering a close-knit community that has become a huge part of their lives. The kids walk to school and play outside together while families gather for New Year’s Eve, Friendsgiving, birthdays, and beyond. A spirit of collective well-being pervades as neighbors shovel one another’s driveways, assist with kids and pets, and help each other. The Hootmans feel eternally grateful that moving to the neighborhood brought them a warm family home to raise their kids and a supportive and treasured group of friends.
